OT - Record shops in Barcelona?
Posted by: rootsman ()

I´ll be visiting Barcelona for the first time soon.

Do you know of any good record shops?
Mainly interested in second hand CDs/LPs - rock/psych/prog/jazz/reggae.

Any other cultural places I should not miss, like music pubs/clubs (I am 55+...),
good/cheap restaurants, sights etc.? (not museums, my wife has that covered).
We´ll be staying in the old town center-ish.

Grateful for any info!

When you walk from PLaca Catalonia down the Rambla, go directly into the narrow streets to the right, quite the opposite way of the tourist trail. The Raval area is less sleek and trendy than the left side, ...or trendy is what it absolutely is... but for the young-ish. There are several record shops tucked between these streets. The modern museum. And some nice pub-in-a-wall style places.
Wouldn´t go too far down (towards the harbour) in the Raval though. It gets a bit rougher.

If you walk on La Rambla towards the Plaza de Catalunya you find the Mercado de la Boqueria on your left. The streets behind that market (I believe Carrer del Carme) there's quite some good record and guitar shops.

It seems Mathijs, that we are walking towards each other on the Rambla.

Me, down. You, up.
We will probably bump into each other.

I'm not surprised. Went to New York last year to find some nice vinyl with Sinatra and other Jazz-giants...didn't find a single record...the biggest vinyl-shop in NY were equal with the smallest in Stockholm...it took me one and a half year to collect everything with Sinatra on Capitol and Reprise except for one album on Reprise...and everything found here...Stockholm is the city for vinyl if you ask me....I'm going to London in January and hoping that the recordstores there has something to offer...

Calle Tallers is the best/only street for record shops, instruments....
But don't expect to find many of them. (I guess in London is the same).

Blues/jazz clubs: Jamboree, Plaza Real (Real square), next to Ramblas.
Flamenco: Tarantos, next to Jamboree.
Cocktails bar: Boadas, calle Tallers too, next to Ramblas again. Good experience havin' a drink there.

Be careful about pickpockets all around the downtown.
Don't take with you jewelry, a lot of money, cool video cameras, etc... specially in Raval area.
Don't forget to visit La Barceloneta (old fisherman's area and taste arroz/rice in the restaurants next to the beach) and the area of Gracia with old fashioned coffe shops and bars for modern proffesionals and bohemian.

Back home again.

I found Barcelona very nice and beautiful, many sights just walking around.
Great view of the city from Parc Guell. Lots of cheap restaurants/bars.

The record shops on/around Carrer des Tallers were worth a visit, some have quite a few Stones (and other) boots.
Revolver, Impacto, Disco 100 and Wah Wah I found most interesting and with largest choice of records.

Here is a superb guide to the Barcelona record shops:
