“In those days [late 1950s] everybody learned to play guitar, for some reason. Everybody was doing it. So on top of wanting to learn to play guitar for a long time and not being able to afford it, suddenly I was thrown into this place were there were lots of guys in various stages of learning. And you could always borrow a guitar.”

--Keith Richards, Guitar Player, November 1977

“I went into the heavy overlaying of guitars, all of them in different open tunings, like ‘Street Fighting Man’ and ‘Jumpin’ Jack Flash,’ which is in open E, because there’s a certain ring that you need there. And what’s always fascinating about open stringing is you can get these other notes ringing sympathetically, almost like a sitar in a way. Unexpected notes ring out and you say, Ah, there’s a constant. That one can go all the way through this thing.”

--Keith Richards, Guitar Player, December 1992

Agreed 100%

For all the talk of a new Keith solo album, I wish someone would suggest, and that he would agree to, recordings of him on accoustic playing old blues, country, jazz, etc., tunes that he likes. Let him record on a back porch, living room, wherever. Just play for an hour and release it as is. I'd buy as many as he cared to release. As much as I enjoy what he plays "for me", I really think I'd enjoy listening to what he plays "for himself".

Peace,
Mr DJA

An album full of just Keith and an acoustic guitar would be quite the thing.

It would have to start or end with Malagueña though.

32-20 Blues, or "Keith's Boogie"

My favorite part of Shine a Light is the deleted scene where Keith is just playing by himself on the stage, seemingly unaware of the cameraman creeping up behind him, and lost in the music. It just made me realize all over again why I love music, and especially the blues, so much.

If I can find it, and it doesn't involve torrenting, I will!

Like with the VOODOO boot box set! At least that we are aware of, it was recorded to tape - DAT. I'd LOVE to have an album of that kind of stuff, in full, but the immediacy of those noodlings is excellent - one of the greatest moments in rock'n'roll history captured on DAT.

A couple of those Voodoo Residue outtakes had some "definite possibilities"....

You're in the New Orleans area, right?

The 2-CD Voodoo Residue is on:

Vigotone Records
565 LaSalle Street
New Orleans, LA USA

or you could probably download and "rip" it from here:

"just play for an hour and release it as is..." - which is more or less what the Voodoo Brew disc is: here are a couple more bits of it

However, on the evidence of VB2 and the older "Honeymoon Tapes" collections, if you sit Keith down with an acoustic guitar and let him play what he likes, you won't necessarily only get blues: the covers include the Beatles, Dylan, the Everly Brothers, country, folk, flamenco and film scores:

- and I'd guess these days you might get reggae and doo-wop as well. I'd buy it.

Thanks to all for posting/linking to all this cool bootleg stuff! As someone who hasn't explored that avenue before I'm loving it! I've only been able to listen to a small bit thus far but hope to be able to put in some serious headphone time tonight after work. Although it's a great sample, the one headphone on my phone here at the office (and the fact that I'm supposed to be working!) is a great tease/diversion, I'm looking forward to some immersion this evening!

Thanks again!

Peace,
Mr DJA

Just blues would be boring and kinda forced, him sitting and playing stuff he likes would for sure be better.

Seems we already have such a thing so no need to wait for him to do it. cool smiley

Hi latebloomer,

You can get this and two other 4-CD Voodoo outtake/session sets at:

[cdcollection.fcpages.com]

It's an excellent mail order catalog and they always fill your order prompty (usually 2 weeks or so after I mail it out there's another new treasure arriving in the mailbox).

I was lucky and found it at iOffer, so didn't even need to venture outside the house. smiling smiley There was only one on sale--I often find stuff on there, though.

I know it's off topic, but with all the talk here about Keith maybe releasing a blues album, I thought this was the best place for these, short of starting a new OT thread. Found it on facebook this morning and it gave me a laugh. The Onion seems to like Eric Clapton.
