O/T THE BOOMTOWN RATS!

Any fans here of the Boomtown Rats>?

In my opinion a massively underrated and unfairly forgotten band who made some genuinely great singles and albums in the late 70s and early 80s.

Very melodic and inventive rhythms, guitar melodies and vocal melodies; along with Geldof's great lyrics; albums like 'Tonic for the Troops' and 'Fine Art of Surfacing' were full of wonderful tunes. More experimental albums like 1980's 'Mondo Bongo' and 1982s 'V Deep' equally as melodic with a variety of different musical styles.

They reformed earlier this year, and I witnessed them play a fantastic show here in Dublin last weekend! A brand new E.P. was released this week also

I like "I Don't Like Mondays", but cannot stand Geldof. He wants to be the first non-astronaut in space; I'd recommend he get a one-way ticket.

I was at the show the first time they performed "I Don't Like Mondays".

I remember Mondays, and Up All Night. Thought they were OK.

But I was blown away by their performance on Live Aid, especially Rat Trap.

Can anyone recommend an album of theirs?

I still have those two albums, Tonic for the Troops and Fine Art of Surfacing, and saw them on the Fine Art tour in 1980, playing to about a thousand people in an arena that held 7500. Good show, though, and I definitely love a few tunes on both those lps. Funny, I've never really liked I Don't Like Mondays and I heard it on the radio at work a couple of hours ago and thought about that gig all those years ago.

Here's one I really like by them:

Buffalo, I can absolutely recommend tonic for the troops and fine art of surfacing - two excellent pieces of work by the Rats. Full of wonderful songs
