Looks like a great mixture of songs, though I'm not really buying boxes and compilations with album tracks and hit singles on them. I'd rather have the albums and stand-alone outtakes records and live albums, or albums with bonus tracks.

each album by sly stone up until small talk was remastered a few years ago with bonus tracks. this box set though has pre sly and the family stone stuff and unreleased live stuff. this box set looks. word on the street is there is a late 760's live gig that will be released on its on. it was going to be part of this box set but the label will release it on its own instead

I wonder if he still lives in a Winnebago? He claimed to live in it by choice, as of a couple of years ago. I saw him with some configuration of the Family Stone back in 2007 in San Jose. Pretty sad. Hopefully he enjoys the proceeds of the re-releases and not just the people who claim to be looking after his interests.

No words can describe how amazing Sly was in his prime. Im convinced that all great artists peak....and then they lose something.

Sly Stone was as important as anyone in 60s/70s music. His best work still shines on.

But don't get hooked on drugs, kids.

I read he regularly works with George Clinton.
Don't know if that actually produces music or crack.

Not even intrested... Sly Stone probably took the greatest fall ever in music. From hero to zero (Stand! & Riot belong in every countdown of greatest albums of all time). George Clinton always depended on other group members (what produced some genre defining albums of course).

What other box set and what gems are missing? I've got all the reissues from a few years ago, the comp. of early studio stuff, a bunch of live boots, the Rhino Handmade 2 disc set, the stand alone singles, etc. Trying to think what I might be missing.

bad thing now sly stone has 2 box sets and both are missing some gems

What other box set and what gems are missing? I've got all the reissues from a few years ago, the comp. of early studio stuff, a bunch of live boots, the Rhino Handmade 2 disc set, the stand alone singles, etc. Trying to think what I might be missing.

the other box set was just the 7 expanded albums packaged together. i believe it was released a few months before they released them individually. there are 2 comps. of pre 1970 outtakes. one covers 1963-1965 and the other 1965-1970. i am being told a 1968 concert was going to be on this box set but instead held back for a standalone release. believe its fillmore 1968. anyways most of the gems i was talking about are songs from his last few albums on epic records that seem to be ignored a lot.

if the 1st sly stone box set never came out with all of the bonus tracks added to each album there was tons of unreleased stuff about a decade ago

boxset release date coming up and i was just wondering anyone ever hear the rumor sly partially blames the black panthers for ruining his career? i heard after STAND they wanted sly to focus on political songwriting and drop the white members of the band. sly shifted towards political stuff with THERES A RIOT GOING on but didn't fire the white members right away. i heard because of this the black panthers did all they could to stop blacks from buying his records or going to his concerts. anyone know if there is any truth to that at all?
