Why Dad's Army was so wonderful was that the sum was greater than the parts; a bit like the Stones really. There were so many wonderful performances in that comedy, ranging from the pompous Manwaring, the subversive Wilson, the miserly undertaker Fraser, and the effeminate vicar. It lost it's initial edge after the death of James Beck, the chap that played Walker, the spiv, but it was still great.
