What's the reaction in Europe regarding this story?

Ikea Withdraws Meatballs After Horse Meat Is Found

LONDON — The escalating crisis over horse meat in beef products in Europe claimed another big retail victim Monday when the Swedish furniture giant, Ikea, withdrew meatballs from sale in 14 European countries.

Europeans will moderate their meat intake for a while. And then return to their regular habits.

Not to go all conspiracy theory about this, but WTF!?
What is the agenda here? This recent barrage of news stories
about horse meat being "hidden" in food for humans doesnt make
sense. No one "accidently" lets a horse slip through the slaughter
line. There is some BS going on here... Follow the money.

Once they get so hungry that they could eat a horse.

There's millions of horses being slaughtered for their meat, which generally is cheaper than beef. Horse meat in general is of better quality than beef, so mixing horse meat and beef is lucrative: better quality and better earnings.

Horse meat is perfect meat, better than beef.

Horse meat is perfect meat, better than beef.

Some peoples will eat anything... dogs, cats, crickets, slugs, dirt... and claim it is all better than beef.

Right you are...besides, who cares about horse meat when you can eat licorice? My kid picked up a bag for me from the candy store, she knows the way to make her Mama happy.

I love The Rolling Stones and I love licorice!smiling bouncing smiley

Ever see that Far Side cartoon where a cow is sitting at a table - fork and knife in hand, napkin around neck - and sampling a t-bone as a bovine crowd gathers and watches him in anticipation for the verdict:
'Tastes like chicken'.

Well if I am what I eat, than I am a big bag of bridge mix licorice right now!
Max, any licorice lover worth her salt will tell you that black licorice is the real deal, followed by red.
The twizzler stuff is not worth the package it comes in, but in a pinch, I'll eat any kind I can get.

I may have in fact been channelling Gary Larson.

Interesting... what do you think is the best, widely available, licorice? I used to like the black when I was kid, but Ilike red now.

We might be headed into dangerous territory here, BV doesn't like food conversations, although I'm not sure licorice qualifies as food...anyway, I'll make this quick.
It has been my experience, that most people feel that the black licorice is too strong, but to me, the black is like a nice shot of anisette, only without the kick. See's candy has the best licorice, but R&J's is really good too.

You have it backwards latebloomer....Anisette, Sambuca, Ouzo...it all tastes gross, but at least the reward was the alcohol content!
