Could the Stones tour behind a live album from the 2012 shows?
Posted by: BlackHat ()
Date: February 5, 2013 22:19

No lengthy recording, an ideal souvenir for those who went to the 2012 shows and those who will see the 2013 shows and a fitting bookend to their recording career. They did it before with No Security. A live album containing guest slots from Clapton, Taylor, Jeff Beck, Black Keys would sell big. There could be a lively debate about which version of Gimme Shelter should be included.

The more I think about the more I like the idea.

Well they'll need something "new" :
- new stdio album
- new stage concept
- new live album

What's most likely ?

What about a touring musical based on "Life"...that would be neat-o

They'd need to hire actors to play musicians who are all merely pushing 40 years old.

Why not? They just toured on a greatest hits comp, which they also did in 2002/2003. They are no longer competing with the top bands of the day for album sales and radio play, and unlike the Some Girls and Tattoo You days, their concert set list is unlikely to include 6 to 8 selections from a new album. Their concerts and their set lists have become like they are--unchanging and frozen in time as ceremonial figures of rock's past glory days.

Johnny Depp is ready...course the Stones would have to play the backing music.
Mick thinks he's 20 so there'd be no re-casting his role...dammit Mick, you ruined a deplorable idea

Sure. Then they could release a live album from this summer's tour too, and tour behind that in the fall.

Then they would be doing a tour behind a live album that itself was a tour behind a live album that was a tour behind a greatest hits album.

That's never been done before. These guys are still breaking new ground!

I reckon it's a much more likely scenario than a new studio album. Believe me I would much rather have a good studio album. But given that it's more likely we'll get another live album then why not hope for something memorable and of good quality (not another Live Licks). The recent shows were of a high standard and well received across the board. Why not mix in a few bits from the Paris shows? We may not get a latter day great studio album but a latter day great live album would surely be the next best thing.

I'd be happy with a Live CD of this tour for now - as long as it had the "rarities" Lady Jane and IWBYM etc..

Absolutely NOT! We are getting a new album with all new songs. End of story!

They are in a legacy war with the Beatles to decide greatest of all time. A new album is a must!

Kind of like what is going on today with Tiger Woods. He is really competing against Jack Nicklaus for "greatest of all time" even though he has to tee it up and beat the current players on the PGA to ultimately dethrone Jack.

They're the Stones, they don't have to put anything out for people to go see them, most people that saw them on the ABB tour or B2B likely weren't there to hear songs from those albums anyway. I like those albums, but most of the general public were there for the oldies. They could tour until the end of time without releasing another scrap of material, just on the strength of '62-'81. Not that I would want them to, but they could.

i'm still holding out hope, no matter how dim it may be that we see another studio album from the guys. with any luck original tunes, Jagger said he had a ton of blues material he had wrote in the past couple of years, or covers. anything would be nice and i'll be the first or second in line to buy it no matter how many naysayers may be out there.

I don't need anything on vinyl, cd, dvd, I only would like a package of concerts like the ones we just seen in 2012. Not much of a request I thinkspinning smiley sticking its tongue out

Are we? Are you certain? Who gave you this information? Of course they have been so prolific since 1997 that a new album is inevitable - NOT! And given the general negative critique of their 21st century output does anybody really want any more of the same. Do you really think they have it in them to pull out something better than they have done in recent years?

I am sure that we'll get the live album and blu-ray of the 50 and Counting shows at some point. Sadly, the greatest live album ever recorded (Brussels Affair) was released with no publicity in an extremely limited edition that few can afford. That's just sad.

a) there wont be a new studio album.
b) maybe some outtake tracks, that would be nice

c)) Does not matter to me if, or what album, there will be .

I JUST HOPE FOR SOME GREAT SHOWS IN HOLLAND OR SOMEHWERE ELSE IN EUROPE !!

GET THE BAND IN GEAR AND PLAY SOME GREAT music once again, thats what matters to me.

The real hard core fans wouldn't like it but as far a a successful tour that would have big crowds and make them lots of money yes they could infact they could tour without any new album at all and it would still be a sucess financially.
