If I ask you, which is the most famous stadium in the world, what would you answer me?
I begin and answer my own qustion:

Maracana Stadium, Rio de Janiero

Coloseum

Wemberley

Most famous for what? Memorable Stones shows? Wonderful soccer matches? Most killings (I'm thinking about the Coloseum now)?

Maracana is said to be a great stadium, but I've never been there. I only know of one famous soccer match, the 1950 World Cup final, that most Brazilians hate to think about. And the Stones never played there, right?

I think Wembley is more famous than Maracana, for both soccer and the Stones.

The problem is that except US and Canada, it's football and rugby that makes the stadiums mythical.
For USA, I'd pick Soldier Field, Giants, Yankee and Dodger stadium.
There are many great stadiums in the world : Munich, Tunis, Paris, Dublin, Marseille, Glasgow, depending on your culture and favorite sport football, soccer, rugby, baseball
Since football (soccer) is the most played game, I think football stadiums come to mind 1st worldwide.

The only stadium outside of North America that the average Canadian would recognize is probably Wembley.
Because of all the Stones tours, I'm familiar with the names of alot of other stadiums across the world.
As far as North America goes, I would say Yankee Stadium and perhaps Wrigley Field and Fenway Park for baseball and maybe Soldier Field and Giants Stadium for football and the Rose Bowl for college football. There have been so many new arenas and stadiums built in the past decade that all of the historic old ones are being replaced/demolished.
All hockey fans miss Chicago Stadium, Detroit Olympia, Boston Gardens, Maple Leaf Gardens, Montreal Forum and old Madison Square Gardens.

This was actually a very interesting post. It was fun to see the European vs North American choices. Cool idea.

Most famous, tho, all-around? I'd have to go with Coloseum in Rome. Too bad that free show never happened last July. That would have been a TRIP !!

I think some of the old Roman Emperors would have gotten up to take a peek at that one !!
