"Doom and Gloom" makes ROLLING STONE MAGAZINE's "Singles of the Year" list

"Doom and Gloom" is #18 on their top 50 list of best 2012 singles. (p. 87 of the Dec. 20, '12/Jan. 3, '13 issue).

Their accompanying commentary:

"The Stones return with an apocalypse-blues kick-in-the-teeth that sounds like 'Start Me Up' stripped for a future of zombies, war, and environmental chaos. Mick Jagger stretches 'screw' like he's tightening one into the world."

I just can't help but view praise for this song as hollow hype. Lyrics aside, the vocals are mixed about 20% too loud and the guitars sound completely over processed through a computer program until they're sterile.

I LOVE the song ! Its the first new Stones song I've heard on the radio( on multiple US stations I might add ) in years-- and the airplay here is good--
nice to hear new Stones on the air against the Beiber-Rhiannon-crap that passes for music these days.
And, by the way, the track ROCKS !

If that song sounds anything like Start Me Up in any way then I'm Warren Buffett.

I'd like to comment on this song after I've seen it live.....but it has grown on me.

It still won't sound like Start Me Up.

"Doom and Gloom" makes ROLLING STONE MAGAZINE's "Singles of the Year" list

Why wouldn't it? It's a good tune.
