I know there's been a big push for setlist variety from show to show.

But historically (until last few tours), this was a band that got a working setlist and then stuck to it night in and night out with little variety.

Has anyone considered that maybe that's how they function best?

And maybe keeping 50 or 60 songs under their belt (versus getting really tight on just 20-30) has added to the problem on recent tours.

Thoughts?

I'd rather see it mixed up, for the NY/NJ shows.

Didn't Chuck say in an interview that they wouldn't be moving things around much for the 5 shows?

They'll prolly change a couple songs, don't matter much though, most all are good.

changing setlists is one the most important things in the world. :-)

Back in 1972/73, when they were the greatest rock and roll band in the history of the world, that's basically what they did. Oh yeah, they played about 75-80 minutes. No one complained.

in the 70,s the stones used to play around 16-17 songs per gig on a particular tour and with the exeption of 1 or 2 at most, the setlist was the same every night.

dont agree with doing this when at the time they had a back catalogue of around 200 songs, so why stick to the same few.

I was really just wondering if it's possible that they function better when they are focused on presenting less songs.

I mean up until the 90's that's basically how they ran their tours. And the greater emphasis of variety on tour over the past decade has coincided with what some may call more ragged performances.

So I wonder if having to have 50 plus songs under their belt versus 20-30 could be a contributing factor.

I'm more interested from the band's point of view. Less so what they "should" or "shouldn't" do....or what we as fans prefer.

Not meant as any critique directed to the band:

However, the more constant setlist for concerts to one season's tour in that period consisted in more songs that were new to that or the preceding tour.
