Why would've been this a bad idea?

Instead of releasing two reissue bonus albums and the best of with two new songs, why would've they not collected the songs on one album and released it as a new album? With the following tracklist it would've been their best effort since Tatoo You (which was a leftover album too, but who cares?). I think the Stones missed a great opportunity to celebrate 50th anniversary with an outstanding, fresh record and give a solid reason to go on tour again.

Ok, here's my own 'lost' album:

1. Doom and Gloom
2. Plundered My Soul
3. Claudine
4. No Spare Parts
5. Do You Think I Really Care
6. Following the River

1. Don't Be a Stranger
2. We Had It All
3. One Last Shot
4. Dancing in the Light
5. When You're Gone
6. You Win Again

This is not an album, this is a compilation of songs not matching to each other, especially thinking of mix, sound, quality and Jagger's 'singing'.

Doom and gloom and then the old-fashioned soul plunder? No way.

Because some of the songs on your list are terrible? This would make best sense in terms of ANOTHER Stones comilation:

Doom and Gloom
One More Shot
Plundered My Soul
Tallahassee Lassie
Pass The Wine
I'm Not Signifying
So Young
Do You Think I Really Care
No Spare Parts
I Can't Help It
We Had It All
You Win Again

I think thematically, it should be a younger monkey on the cover, and the title would be 'Goo Goo'....sort of a prequel to GRRR!

I think these tracks would work together best as a medley single.

'Fresh record' ?

Polishing off 40 year old leftovers and passing it off as a 'new album'?

Barrel scraping at it's worst.

At least Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison and lots of other performers have the excuse that the artist is dead when those responsible for their legacy assemble releases of questionable integrity.

The Stones dont feel the need to make a new record for a 'solid reason' to go on tour again. They're a nostalgia act who happen to get offered $6 million per show. Thats the most 'solid reason' there will be.

And the follow-up album would be called GaSSSP!
