Mick's Vocals too upfront/too loud in new song - is DON WAS to blame?
Posted by: jjsteve ()

Ever since Voodoo Lounge, the studio recordings do not sound the same and does some or much of the blame go to Don Was and his production style and influence? As evidenced on Doom & Gloom, Mick is way too upfront and too loud (same can be said for plundered my soul and the list goes on). Stones sound more like a loud hard rock band as opposed to a soulful/bluesy rhythym & blues rock band.. Perhaps if bill were still here, maybe it would sound different.

for the new songs, to be recorded in 2018, they need a new producer.

adding 'goat' to any pre-existing word is a good thing.

Since Jeff Bhaskar made the mix, perhaps Don Was should have the title Escapegoatism.

Was he exiled or detained in a Tibetian monastry for 39 days?

Good observation and I agree. But in PMS it worked pretty good I think. A much better song anyway.

Clearly a Bigger Bang leftover. Stick with the archive releases boys.

Typical modern Stones production (is Charlie _really_ playing those drums?).

And I am sick of those @#$%& fake hand claps!!!

But worst of all are the stupid trying-to-be-topical basic rhyme lyrics.

Zombies Mick? Really? Are we kowtowing to a video game mentality now?

Please remove heads from up arses prior to retiring in some recognizable effort to do so gracefully.

And to think some people actually comlpain about all of the "war horses" in a Stones concert set list.

My opinion after a couple of listens to Doom and Gloom is that you don't really want to ever hear it played again much less buy a concert ticket and have the misfortune of having to set thru it.
