According to Mick, the songs on GHS were meant to be evocative, tender, romantic.
'I mean, if you can't fall in love with every cup of coffee in a coffee shop - how do you convey that in a song?'

Winter sucks.
Cold wet weather, short daylight hours. You can have it.

I want to go live with Rockman when November rolls around.

Winter is great - Highs near 80 Lows around 70

The song is right up there with Moonlight Mile. Very Powerful.

Not really suitable for the moment... We have more than +30°C (= 85°F)...

Texas summers and cold beer. Winter can't beat that no matter how much Mick Taylor plays...who did the strings? John Paul Jones?

Crap song and season.

What about a Summer Romance for you Mr. M? It seems you can use one!

And you don't even have winter, EG. You should live here in Scandinavia. Winter from October to April. And I mean real winter.
Then you will really cherish the short but sweet summer. Were I to decide, all months should be August.

seasonal winter sucks except for hockey season

hope there is one this year..

the song winter is IMO one of the stones top ballads, right up with moonlight mile. shows off MT's melodic style. jagger's rhythm part is cool. i ve always heard and felt a van morrison-ish vibe in it.

Great song and the best thing about Winter is I get to turn OFF my Freakin Air Conditoner for a few months. Thing runs for 8 months of the year and my electric bill goes through the roof!

Well, I've had about 40 of them and I'm still here, so there you go....
102 degrees in the shade and 1000 percent humidity, no wind and add throw in last year's drought.
Oh, and in New England, at least you know the summer will end....
We'll still be seeing 95 in September...

Hate the season winter - but love the song - I play it a lot - and think GHS is discussed to often as a throwaway album - maybe if the sleeve was black and white - it would be hailed as a classic.

The song is gorgeous, maybe my top Stones ballad, if I had to choose, at least for today. I like the season very much too, when it's cold, clear, with no wind, and you can smell the snow coming, winter is just about as beautiful as the song.

And I wish I been out in California
When the lights on all the Christmas trees went out
But I been burnin' my bell, book and candle
And the restoration plays have all gone 'round
It sure been a cold, cold winter
My feet been draggin' 'cross the ground
And the fields has all been brown and fallow
And the springtime take a long way around

Yeah, and I wish I been out in Stone Canyon
When the lights on all the Christmas trees went out
But I been burnin' my bell, book and candle
And the restoration plays have all gone 'round
Sometimes I think about you, baby
Sometimes I cry about you
Sometimes I wanna wrap my coat around you
Sometimes I wanna keep you warm
Sometimes I wanna wrap my coat around you
Sometimes I wanna but I can't afford you
