UPDATE: Ronnie DENIES Involvement In Auction
Posted by: Cocaine Eyes ()
Date: September 26, 2012 23:05

Rolling Stone Ronnie Wood has said he is "staggered" and "shocked" by a sale of art and memorabilia, organised by his former wife Jo.

Rolling Stones tour outfits and a custom Fender Stratocaster are among the lots being offered at auction in Los Angeles next month.

Wood said some of the items were "clearly his personal belongings" and that he had no involvement in the sale.

The couple's divorce was finalised in 2011, after 24 years of marriage.

They had separated three years earlier, after Ronnie's widely reported relationship with waitress Ekaterina Ivanova.

Julien's Auctions in Beverly Hills announced on Wednesday that Jo was putting band memorabilia, which she had collected over the years, under the hammer as part of the sale, which is expected to raise up to $500,000 (£388,000).

Should it go ahead, the auction will benefit MusiCares, the Grammys charity that offers recovery to people in the music industry.

The collection features memorabilia spanning four decades, from the guitarist's work with the Rolling Stones, his earlier association with Faces and his solo career.

Items include worn leather jackets, backstage passes from various Rolling Stones tours, and portraits of Keith Richards, Eric Clapton, and Bob Dylan.

Antiques, furniture and art from the Woods' former home in Surrey will also be included in the forthcoming sale.

An Erard harp is expected to raise up to $5,000 (£3,884), while a bronze jockey statue by Dame Elisabeth Frink could fetch as much as $85,000 (£66,000).

'Outrageous sale'
Darren Julien of Julien's Auctions announced the sale, saying: "They are still very good friends and they just decided it was time to simplify and sell some of their property."

But Ronnie Wood later released a statement through his publicist, saying he had declined the offer to participate.

"He is therefore shocked and disappointed that this auction is being misrepresented as a joint sale. This is not the case."

The statement continued: "Ronnie feels saddened that Jo has taken this course of action and wants the public to know he has not teamed up with Jo on this outrageous sale."

Jo Wood and her representatives were not immediately available to respond to the statement.

Wood, 65, has been focusing on his art career of late and opened an art show in April entitled, Faces, Time and Places in New York.

He also fronts programmes on Absolute Radio and the Sky Arts Channel that have him chatting and "jamming" with fellow musicians.

Wood said some of the items were "clearly his personal belongings" and that he had no involvement in the sale.

Sure looks like some of his personal items to me. I started to talk about it in the other the thread, but I stopped short, not knowing what the situation was... but it sure looks like his stuff to me.

Maybe he will have to buy his own stuff back... who knows...

I think its already turned out. And pretty much in line with my initial guesswork.

She owns the stuff, the contents of the house, as part of the divorce
settlement. What did Ronnie think she was gonna do with it, start a Ronnie museum?

And just how "staggered" and "shocked" can he really be when his statement
includes the fact that he turned down an invitation to participate in the
auction?

I guess Ronnie was hoping that she would sell the rock memorabilia more
discretely, piece by piece quietly to dealers. But obviously its been decided
to go for the publicity value of running a Rolling Stone rummage sale, to
hopefully boost the value of the non-rock collectibles. If there's something
in the sale Ronnie wants back, he's just gonna have to buy it.

The only action she took that was nasty was implying that her and Ronnie were
selling the stuff jointly. But she and the auctioneers figured correctly that
that would get a rise out of Ronnie and therefore extra publicity.

I agree with you on all counts. Why should she want to have a house full of stuff that reminds her of a bygone era? She can't even be accused of profiteering since the proceeds are going to charity.

No. Some small percentage will go to the designated charity, but this is mostly
for Jo. Money she needs, I'm guessing. And whether she needs it or not, its hers.

I don't care much about the auction but one item, # 609 strikes as a 'could-be-mistake' ???
Ronnie was in a bad state when he left the house.
perhaps he didn't remember that he left a....
1955 Fender Stratocaster in sunburst finish with a maple neck and black dot inlays. Serial number 6634.
Not original case.

there's still 29 days to go.
maybe/hopefully that item won't be up for grabs.

Go Ronnie, go!

Hope someone tells Ronnie quick enough about that Strat.
A '55 Fender Strat alone is worth a small fortune today.
Then owned and played by Ronnie Wood of Stones/Faces fame it would sell for big bucks.

Just to play devil's advocate here for a moment - are you guys aware of the fact that for MANY years Jo was Ronnie's manager/handler? She basically was his 'Jane Rose'.

She was on the RS payroll. She helped create an organic line of products which Keith uses as well as Ronnie. She was WELL ACCEPTED as Ronnie's 'Jane Rose'.

So......perhaps Jo thinks that she's entitled to this stuff as a RS (former) employee.

Just sayin'.

Yep, quite aware....but
was Jo aware what this guitar is?
perhaps she thought it was just another guitar that Ron was going to paint on.
or similar to her pink ESP Strat that Ron gave her.

since the '55 Strat doesn't have it's original case, it could have been mis-represented or wasn't looked at properly until auction listing.
looks more like a working tool to me.

I wasnt aware of much of it, except I knew she was his wife and life partner for a long long time, and knowing that is enough for me to being careful about what I posted here regarding all of this. I am not worthy to make a judgement about what she can/should/might do, or about what he did, or any of it. It is their business... and they sure are not the first (or last) couple to get a divorce. Anyway... It all just seems kind of sad.

Absolutely true and understandable. But there are several ways to get rid of that stuff. One of them is giving it back to Ronnie.

We should start collect money and send Matt over!
But guess he will be there anyway. Better he get some

My guess is that the only thing Ronnie's really pissed about with this auction is that some of the proceeds are going to Charity - instead of Ronnie himself.
