Well Stone Roses are great and I've seen Kasabian live too, but none of them are better than The Who, Oasis or The Stones.

Albeit both Kasabian and The Roses are still working as bands.

Why ?
Kasabian were once unfairly dismissed as lightweight lad-rock - but have now proved that they are better than that .Don't forget the band has now cherished the UK rock scene for almost 15 years

I saw them in Lyon (Nuits de Fourvière ) and they set the audiance on fire .
Kasabian's guitarist played real good and blew me away .
Pity the singer wants to look like Bono .

About the album "Empire" I find it quite uneven but I love the three first songs and the last one .

Just saying ....

Is it a tongue-in-cheek remark that I didn't get because of language purposes ?smiling smiley

Of course none of them are better than the Stones.
What is puzzling me is the way you put the Stones ,the Who & Oasis in comparision
you can't lump them all together,right ?

Yep. Guess they are very "local" because in the States they are virtual unknowns. Guess they are sort of like The Jam, who also could neber "break" it in the USA.

I was working with Wilco back in 1996 or 1997 when The Stone Roses opened up for us at either the Fillmore or Great American Music Hall in San Francisco (can't remember which).

I surprised they haven't made more progress as they put on a decent show that night and the promises made my their female manager at the time to try to get ahead were nothing short of everything.

American bands are the real deal though Sway, but I respect your opinion more than you know. peace

Hey ,they are not "local"
Because they are unknown in the US doesn't mean they aren't famous.
The Jam ARE famous .

I have no idea who The Jam are....certainly not overly popular here in California. But then i've never heard a song by Oasis either, I fortunately heard an interview first and decided never to taste their medicine.

The Who - Live at leeds was nothing short of a religious experience for me. peace

Yes Sway you wild child, those boys were fun to watch, all three chords. . Reminded me of the fun I had in rock bands in high school, musically, but the singer gave me chills reminding me of the great Steve Mariott. RIP

Here is a guy I just dicovered today, would make me proud to be an Israeli, which is saying quite a lot for him these days. You might like his electric version better, but you know me, I usually go for the stripped down versions. A good song is a good song in any case. peace

(But they are not famous. Most people in the Staets never heard of them. I thought they were good. FAMOUS = The Stones. EVERYBODY knows them - that is famous)

If you like the Who, then give the Jam a listen--they're heavily mod/Who influenced. It's Paul Weller's band from the late 70s--great Rickenbacker guitar sound with Townshend-type crash chords.

And here is their Kinks cover

Plus a couple more originals

and a Paul Weller solo song

Thanks Stonesnow, I thought I was going to have to reply that I was unmoved until I heard your post of English Rose for the first time. Very sweet, love it.

The hardest rocking bands seem to always come through when they try to play sweet. So much yanging that when they ying, it really has to work to balance out. Finding a song I truly like is hard business but you got me today and I am grateful to you and Swaystones. peace

Naturalust , I can't see the video ,it says it's not available in my country.Perhaps you have another link ? Or could you send it to my email box ? Thanks .
And I am happy and honored you paid attention to the Jam smiling smiley

Stonesnow, like I said you got me with that English Rose tune. I found this acoustic version which shows Mr. Weller playing it very soulfully. Had to cop the chords to make it mine, this dude even looks like me somewhat.

Sway, of course I would listen to anything you asked me too. I haven't been dissapointed yet. Hope you like this version of English Rose too.
Here's another version of the other song too maybe works in France?

peace
