Wow. That guy was full bore energy right up until he died, in his 90s! And now young kids will know who he was from his Spongebob appearances.

RIP Marty! A man's man. Navy veteran, and could play sensitive and hardboiled. Bad Day at Black Rock is phenomenal. A must seen noirish film.

McHales Navy was a black and white TV comedy classic- required after- school viewing back in the 60s here in the USA when I was a kid. So many of the great ones passing away. Raise a glass to Ernest Borgnine. RIP!

Too much too soon. Feeling mortal these last couple of weeks with the passing of Don Grady, Andy Griffith and now Ernest Borgnine. Yes lets raise a glass to a time now fading. RIP.

He was also a great movie villain. Anyone remember this one?

I've never seen that one, but I saw "Ice Station Zebra" in which he was a villain. But he was kind of a sniveling weasel of a bad guy in that one, and not the greatest character.

In retrospect "Baseketball" will probably not be remembered as one of his best works, but I'll always remember him as Ted Denslow.

Yeah he could play a great villain. A great scene from one of my favorites, it is a slow burn.

I saw that movie 5 or 6 times when I was a kid (I don't know how I got in; I was way too young). He was terrific in The Wild Bunch. And he was perpetually yelling (he was a great at yelling) in The Poseidon Adventure. RIP, sir.

The thing that strikes me with Ernest Borgnine is that he always looked so happy.
So full of life and content. Well, God blessed him with a long and seemingly happy life.
What more can you ask for? May he rest in peace.

I grew up watching him on McHale's Navy, so to me he was a good guy, kinda like my dad at his best moments, but all the time. It was kinda hard reconciling that character with the characters he played in movies like Willard, where he's sadistically murdering a poor defenseless little mouse. Poseidon Adventure was okay. He was at least a reluctant hero in that one, and he survived!

Wow, ironic. Today I was driving with my brother on I-405 South on the way to Huntington Beach in SoCal. I told him the story of when I was in high school and some friends an I were at that same spot on the 405. To our right we saw Ernest Brognine driving in a Mercedes, steering with his left hand and his right arm draped over the back of the passenger seat. He was kind of leaning back and looked happy and content. We honked, and when he looked our way, we waved to him. With a big smile on his face, he lifted his hand up through the sunroof and waved to us. It was a big thrill for us all.

RIP Mr. Borgnine.

RIP Ernest. He even had a trivial pursuit question in his honour...which celebrity had the car number plate BORG 9?
