Chip Monck Hosts Rolling Stones Exhibition In Melbourne

by Paul Cashmere on April 17, 2012

Chip Monck, the man who served as the Master of Ceremonies at Woodstock in
1969, will host a photo exhibition from his personal Rolling Stones
collection in Melbourne.

Chip worked with The Rolling Stones as Lighting Design & Operations from
1969–1972. He now lives in Melbourne, Australia and is the Director of
Production for the One Great Night On Earth concert happening later this year.

Chip met the Stones in 1969 after a call from Mick Jagger. “At 3am NY time I
made the call which resulted in a ten minute conversation. I explained that I
had attended their show in Boston in 1966 and that I would not attempt any
improvement in presentation unless it was a serious coordination between the
band and my staff,” he said. “Slowly a crew, who would stay with me for 5
years, just appeared. We then became the crew for ‘Stones 69’.

‘Backstage Pass, a Photographic exhibit from the collection of E.H.B. ‘Chip’
Monck, is being featured at The Colour Factory, 409-429 Gore St, Fitzroy
until April 28.

One Great Night On Earth will be an annual music festival and fundraiser
aiming to raise around $14 million a year for Australian’s effected by
natural disasters.

The line-up is yet to be announced but acts already confirmed include guitar
legend Dick Dale, Stranglers frontman Hugh Cornwell and The Angels.

One Great Night On Earth is on December 1, 2012.

(I thought Chip lived in Queensland. Rockman, you've met him too?)
