This clip is pure joy. Booker T. Washington, Steve Cropper, Duck Dunn, and the great Al Jackson on drums. Check out members of CCR standing offstage.

Hi 71Tele,

Thanks for posting this magic!
Impossible to imagine anyone not loving these players. Try a Google search for 'groove' and this lot should come up!

Cheers,

Simon.

Very nice! I have come to really appreciate Booker T over the past few years. In the 60's, his music was trivialized by using it in TV ads. What a great sound, and, the Hammond B3?? What a brilliant-sounding instrument!
I saw Booker T and CCR on the same stage at the Newport 69 Festival. But this clip appears to have been filmed indoors.

I love Booker T & The MGs.

I have their Time Is Tight 3 cd box set: Melting Pot: McElmore Avenue: The Way It Should Be.

I also have the Booker T solo cds, and some Steve Cropper solo cds.

I also have a feral version of Green Onions, recorded in France in 1967, and on a Stax box set: it exceeds the 1962 version.

This is from the syndicated TV special about Creedence that ran in (I think) '71. There is no listing for it on imdb, but I recall this Booker T. footage, and another scene where Creedence is sitting in a limo and a fan pokes his head through a window, and wants to share whatever he's got in his bottle, and they decline with sort of a "we're straight...we don't do drugs/alcohol" explanation.

Which at the time, seemed pretty unconventional. Weird in fact.

I like this one from '94:

The only bummer is that they didn't continue. Frankly, I didn't like the
liason between them and Neil Young, but there ya go.

Now, since you're talkin' about Stax, check out "Wattstax" from '71
and "Soul Power" from '74 ... essential viewing.

I have been to the Stax museum in Memphis. Worth a trip for anyone in town. They have done an excellent job at restoring the original building (which I believe had burned down). The exhibits are great and include the organ Booker T. played on the "Green Onions" session, as well as one of the original reel-to-reel four track tape recorders from the studio.

What a GREAT recording group that was ...

Should celebrate it with a commemorative stamp.

What a great logo. One of the best in rock and roll history.

The thing is: live Booker T & The Mgs really did well with Neil Young. Studio-wise it was a miss-match though.
