They should have all killed themselves when they were 27.

Come on.. these guys are old age pensioners for goodness sake.

The fire went out a long time ago.

What are people expecting?

Jagger/Richards/Eliot - The Hallowed Old

I

We are the hallowed old
We are the ones stuffed on stuff
We all need someone to lean on
With heads filled with snow, that's tough!

Our dried voices now whisper
More quiet and meaning much less
The seeds of love are swirling above
Like rat's feet over shattered glass

Shape without form, mesmerized
Shade without colour, hypnotized
Gesture without motion, paralyzed
All that inside of me!

Those who have crossed to the other side
Remember us - if at all - not as lost violent souls,
But only as the ones stuffed on stuff
Only as, hey hey, the hallowed old

II

Faraway eyes get my rocks off in dreams
And sunshine still bores the daylights out of me
Over there is a tree swinging with awful strange fruit
Couldn't be over seventeen and still be that cute

The end it comes at the speed of light
The end it comes in a strange disquise
Will it be slow or will it be fast?
Will it linger like liquor or be done in a flash?

III

This is the dead land, this is the cactus
And only one record here, my favorite Abraxas
And here are the Stone images, brought from afar
Could make a dead come, fcuk a star fcuk a star

Try a little tenderness, dock of the bay
In death's hall of fame, hey hey, what I say
And if you never ever want to walk alone
Your lips that kiss, pray to the broken Stone.

IV

The ayes and eyes are not here,
in this valley of the dying star
In this hallowed valley of no spare parts,
without even one running car

These broken jaws, these asses,
Who make passes at girls only with glasses
In this last of the glimmers that still seek to gather
Isn't there anything else you'd still really rather?

Sightless now, except for the perpetual star
Stitching together sound files ending with rar
Remember us - if at all - not as lost violent souls,
But only as the ones stuffed on stuff, hey hey, the hallowed old.

V

Here we go round the joint was rocking
The joint was rocking. The joint was rocking.
Here we go round the joint was rocking.
At three o'clock in the morning.

Between the idea and the reality
Between the motion and the act
You chase the Shadow

Between the conception and the creation
Between the emotion and the response
You chase the Shadow

Between the desire and the gasm
Between the potency and the existence
Between the essence and the descent
You chase the Shadow

For Thine is the Kingdom and Glory

This is the way the Stones end
This is the way the Stones end
This is the way the Stones end
Not with a bigger bang but a whimper.

It's a damn shame when people post crap like this. There's a whole lot of us who are pretty happy with what the Stones have given us both in the studio and the stage between the ages of 27 and their mid sixties. No, it may not top the peak of creative brilliance that culminated in Exile On Main Street, but it's still been a damn good body of work. No other rock and roll band has come close. And I'd make a good wager that if they do give us a tour to go out with, despite their ages it will be no mere whimper.

The sheer number of grumpy old granmas on this site is astounding,
not to mention the microscope studying nerds who over analyze every minutiae of every aspect every breath every the member of this band ever took. It kind of ruins the fun, it is only rock and roll, why so fkng serious?

Me: EXTREMELY happy with their post-golden-age output.

Me: Agree that that still MIGHT happen. Increasingly unlikely though imho. I still
expect a big killer album of unheard things, maybe even recently written stuff,
but not much in the way of shows. Just guessing of course like everybody else.

Sarcasm doesn't work on the internet (nor with Americans).

Are you implying Americans are computer-like?

I see it has nothing to do with the Stones.

So this is a kind of "some people hate Rolling Stones" thread which is obviously made for confronting the ones who say "yes! their last tour and album sucked!". The fan-boys can all get together on this.
In my opinion, their last album and their last tour sucked....heavily (IMO), and it made me sad, on behalf of Keith and Jagger - nevermind the money I spent; that I don't care about.

Oh well, to each their own. I thought A Bigger Bang was their best album since Some Girls and the two shows I saw on that tour rank among the best Stones concerts I've ever been to!

I love the Stones...if they tour again GREAT - if they don't that's OK - I'll live - they've left us an amazing catalog of music that I'll take with me to the grave - so it's OK. And yeah - it's only rock n' roll - but I LIKE IT - LOVE it - need it - breathe it.

Hey...it would be nice to see them "one more time."
