Grace, warmth, incredible power ... Rosetta Tharpe and Big Mama Thornton are contemporary versions of goddesses from greek/latin mythology

The Big Mama Thornton track is available on Arhoolie records

Very cool. Love the open mouthed riffing she does at the beginning of the track. This clip would be welcome in the "WOT: Women who Scare Me" thread. I mean I'd hate to be the dude who didn't give her the love and understanding she demands. That's all. peace.

Damn another great one! She indeed makes that beautiful SG Custom come to life. I would go to church every day if she was part of the congregation. This really defines the connection between gospel and rock and roll. Thanks for the post. I wonder if she is using talc on her hands?...lol peace

It's from the DVD the American Folk Blues Festival: The British Tours. It also contains the best live performance of Howlin' Wolf I've ever seen (which I've posted here before).

Memphis Minnie "I'd Rather See Him Dead"

I'm just realizing there were a number of great/influential early women guitarists: Memphis Minnie, Sister Rosetta Tharp, Maybelle Carter

Seems like one of those boys could've tuned that damn thing for her before she rode up. Didn't they know it rained?
