Black Limousines about Keith?

You have to dig deep sometimes to find any specific meanings in Stones songs, but I always felt Black Limousines was about Keith. Mick's not the kind of guy to say so in an interview. What do you guys think?

ask ronnie...he wrote the song

of course lots of the Glimmer Twins' love songs are partly to one another, but ... "you in white and me in green"

- St Tropez may 12th 1971 (don't know who took it, sorry!)

PS: the track title is a singular limousine ... if you feel like fixing the thread title to match

He wrote the riff, not the lyrics. As I understand it.

Ronnie's noted that leaving room for the Mick to write lyrics was one of the keys to getting this number on the album

One of my all time favourites songs. Great bluesy riff.

Well now, look at your face baby ! Look at you and look at me!

I'm not sure who it's about, but at least we now know Keef can see well enough for the upcoming, massively covered 50th Anniversary World Tour !!!!

Best song off "Tattoo You". Reminds me of
"OoOH's" "The Under Assistant Promo Man"
from '65.

Those three LPs, "SG", "Emo" and "TY" recall
"Out of Our Heads" in some ways. Stripped down
and peppy, even though "TY" doesn't have a coherent
creative timeline.

Dear Keith:

We used to ride
Ride around in limousines
We looked so fine, baby
You in white and me in green
Drinking and dancing
All inside our crazy dream
Well now look at your face now baby
Look at you and look at me

I get so scared
Just to see you on the street
The living dead
Your all the same, you never speak
Your wrecked out now
Washed up high up on the beach
Well now look at your face now baby
Look at you and look at me

We used to shine, shine, shine, shine
Say what a pair, say what a team
We used to ride, ride, ride, ride
In a long black limousine
Those dreams are gone baby
Locked away and never seen
Well now look at your face now baby
Look at you and look at me

Regards,
Mick

I always thought it was refering to Marianne.

And I always thought it was Keith's lyrics. About Anita.

I always wondered but don't know. I also think Look What the Cat Dragged In Is possibly about Keith.

Wouldn't that be looking back, backward, an eye on nostalgia, which is something Mick flat out refuses to do?

Well, except with the set lists of course.

But could he even be bothered back then to do such a vile thing as reflect on his life at all?

Interesting, although I doubt its about Keith. Its not as if their relationship was seriously fractured in 1977-78 when that song would have been written.

Unlike the mid 80s when he was writing stuff like Kow Tow, Shoot off your mouth and Party Doll.

Very good observation. Would fit perfectly with the time frame of the end of their marriage.

Me too, although I think a lot of their lyrics are composites as sssoul has suggested, plus a lot of what appear to be love songs directed at a woman are also partly reflective of their own relationship (All about You, Party doll, sweethearts together, worried about you, beast of burden etc - maybe even Dont Be A Stranger)

Look What the Cat Dragged In would be hilarious if it were about Keith,
but on closer inspection i believe it's more about Lizzie -
it even includes quite jaggedy-mean references to her dating a Lennon offspring

but anyway all great lyrics are great because they resonate on many levels

Very definitely and obviously about Bianca.

jagger does not EVER write a song about one person.

what he likes to do is find lyrics that simultaneously address a number of
his significant others simultaneously.

he likes it best when one of those "significant others" is his audience.

in this case, yes, keith, yes, bianca, and yes, a good part of his aging carping audience.

with regard to his audience, think of it as dead flowers part 17.

I always thought it was about the women the Stones left behind......Marianne, Anita, etc...probably more....by the late '70's/early '80's, drugs had taken their toll on both Marianne and Anita and their looks had really suffered....I figured that was the source of the "look at your face now baby" lines amoung others.

One of my favorites BTW. Love the lyrics.

" "you in white" = you Keith were at the bottom of your heroin addiction
"and me in green" = while I Jagger took the lead of the band and I made millions.

So indeed BL was written by Jagger about Keith.

Stupidly yours! >grinning smiley<
