Brussels Affair- Just Release It!
Posted by: 71Tele ()

I just listened to Tumbling Dice from the Brussels Affair boot. It may be the singular best live recording ever by the Rolling Stones and yet the general public has no idea it even exists. If they released this the critical acclaim (and possibly sales) would be similar to many of the Dylan "Bootleg Series" releases. Release it with appropriate liner notes, background info, etc.

I'm curious: Was the "Bedspring Symphony" boot from the same show?

Bedspring Sympathy is mostly from the Brussels show, but Happy, Gimme Shelter, Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo and Street Fighting Man are from the final London '73 show; I prefer the Brussels version of Happy/GS, but the London version of Street Fighting Man just might be the most intense Stones performance on record.

The London version of Street Fighting Man is simply epic! It turns into a raga jam that is unlike any Stones live performance. The definitive version of that song.

Is that the version (running time 5:28) that is on the bootleg called "Timeless Europe 73"? At least thats how I have it listed or is this another fabulous version?

Brussels Affair/Bedspring Symphony. I first got it in 1974 and had never heard anything like it. Pure shattering brilliance. I can't understand why it's never been released officially.

If anyone can point me to where I can hear the London version of SFM I'd appreciate it. The Brussels version is great, London is even better?

as stevecardi pointed out above: the boot called Bedspring Symphony has the London rendition of SFM.
so does the one called Brussels Affair: Definitive Edition:

Yes....but in fact, nearly all "Brussels"-bootlegs has the London version of SFM - the London version is almost a "rarity"...compared to how many copies there are of bootlegs with London's SFM.
It's easy to know which version one has got....because on the Brussels SFM....Keith is out of tune; and Taylor does some terrible bum notes near the end. London on the other hand; in perfect....all the way

I'm always telling my friends that Stones best live album was never released, and of course they don't believe me - but change their mind after listening to Brussels affair

Well, then, if anyone knows where I can purchase the Definitive Edition please e-mail me or post here. I had to make my own show from putting together the two discs of a boot called "headed for an overload", which I believe were the King Biscuit broadcasts...

Thanks with sssoul...at least I know I have the London SFM. It is fantastic. Taylor goes off into Eastern scales at the end. The whole band was on fire. Hypnotic.

Even Angie soars with Keith on electric and Wyman playing that great bass run at the beginning of each verse.

This version of the Stones live perhaps even better than Ya-Yas, if only because we know there are no overdubs (weren't needed!)

I doubt those '73 shows were filmed...I just saw some footage on YouTube of Tumbling Dice live in LA from '75. That version is already a steep step down from '73.

Never did see anything of that footage, before Riffbuk posted a youtube clip - which featured a small glimpse of that show.
Prior to that....I only read about it being filmed....which I doubted before seeing that clip.
