Post a little-known fact about the Stones
Posted by: Bliss ()
Date: October 1, 2010 14:10

No need for a detailed reference, but please post some obscure piece of information related to the Stones that you think others might not know.

I will kick off with...

Keith said that he got his inspiration for Gimme Shelter from the theme song of a 1960s American tv show called 'The Twilight Zone'.

The music or the lyrics? The intro riff is just a variation on Under My Thumb, according to Keith.

What are you talking about? I didn't say it was on the Internet. Was it from an interview Keith gave in a magazine, book, radio interview, etc? But I didn't say the Internet.

ok. nobody ever reads books, magazines or listens to the radio, either.

little known fact - keith gave an interview in late 74 to british magazine and said he was pretty sure the new guitar player would be wayne perkins. also said new album would be called cockroaches - they used this name for secret gigs eg. el mocambo

they actually did a world tour in 1986 but they had inserted gas all over the stadium that would make everyone forget about that tour..

Boulder, '81 Tour - I was about 20' from the end of the ramp, and he sings 'Am I rich enough? AM I RICH EEE-NUFFFF!!!!!!!!????????' He's looking right by me, and I flip him off. He busts out in the biggest grin, like it was gonna split his face, nods his head laughing and starts strutting back down the ramp to the stage. Absolutely funny as shit.

Well, here's another one today I read at the hairdressers: a magazine article with excerpts from the new unauthorised Carla Bruni bio: a friend of Carla's claims that Mick wanted to divorce Jerry and marry her, but Carla refused.

Slipping Away was something of a dedication to his son who died in '76.

Keef has always cut his own hair. Started doing it in the early days to save some cigarette money, and just kept doing it

(I read that in an interview with him in some guitar mag in the 90s I think).

That explains why his hair always looks so f-ed up.

i believe that on the 1964 US Tour....Brian Jones missed some dates (incl. Milwaukee)
supposedly because of tonsillitis. Not sure who substituted for him. (Oct 11-14, 1964)

if anyone can confirm & has additional knowledge....please do.

IORR............but I like it!

I've read that somewhere as well...He supposedly missed like 5 gigs, maybe they played as a 4-piece with Stu playing the whole show...

If you read Stanley Booth's book it leads you to believe he missed more than five gigs.

How the GLIMMER TWINS originated.
Mick and Keith are on a cruise, at the bar with their eyeliner and crazy bellbottoms and colorful Hawiian shirts. An old lady comes up to the bar an ask for a drink, turns to Mick and Keith and says "ah, the glimmer twins". True story.

>> turns to Mick and Keith and says "ah, the glimmer twins" <<

er ... turns to Mick & Keith and says "i know you're someone - who are you?? come on, give us a glimmer"
it was during their december 1968 voyage to South America.

~*~*~*~*~

as a teenager Keith worked at a post office for half a day - his only non-music-related job.
he went for his lunch break and never returned. throughout this entire period of employment he had a mouse in his shirt pocket.
and that's why i always imagine he's got another mouse in that Exile shot where he's so absorbed by his pocket :E
