Bobby Clarke is it? He broke the great Russian player Valerij Charlamovs ankle in the Summit Series. Admired by some certainly not by me.

Actually he didn't break his ankle and the spelling is Kharlamov. And so it's begun already has it, Stoneage? Nothing stopping you from starting a Swedish Elite League thread instead.

sorry to hear Sean Avery was cut by the Rangers. He's playing in Hartford of the AHL.....if he doesn't get picked up by another team he will probably end up in Europe.

Best thing that could happen to the NHL is the NBA lockout.

Better yet, a shortening of the regular season as well as the first round of playoffs to a best of five. It's becoming the new MLB as far as the regular season goes. Just way too long.

If you transcript Cyrillic script to Swedish it spells Valerij Charlamov, andrewm. To English it spells Valeri Kharlamov. Valerij, by the way, died in a car accident in 1981, at the age of 33.

Swedish Elit League? We don't have much of that anymore. We sent our best players to the NHL...

Ya think?

I would say the NFL would gain more.

the NHL finals (especially) last year was a ratings bonanza for NBC...it had a very late 1970's feel....and that's exciting for the league. It will be interesting if they can recreate that.....

No, you didn't send them. They went of their own accord.

Sure, but what I mean is that when the NFL isn't playing (Tuesday - Saturday) the fan who might otherwise be watching the NBA might watch a hockey game or two and get the bug. Plus, in those dark months from February 1 to April 1, what else in pro sports is there to watch?
