Theremin

I've read that Brian Jones played the theremin on BTB and TSMR. I figure it was on Gomper for TSMR but what BTB song had the theremin on it?

The "theremin" on Stones recordings is most likely an oscillator:

Please Go Home - played by whom?

Cosmic Cristmas - most probably by Bill

2000 Light Years From Home - unknown, too

As far as I know there is no theremin on a Stones track. All the 'synth' sounds are from a Moog modular synthesizer.

AFAIK they used a Theremin (Brian?) on Please Go Home and the built in oscillator in the mixer desk for the effects on "Satanic". Moog's and other synthesizers were very rare to find in studios or to rent in the 60's.

According to the book Analog Days Jagger bought a Moog modular system in 68 but it was never used on any tracks by the Stones. Brian and Bill were supposed to have been a bit pissed on Mick for never bringing it down to Olympic for them to play. smiling smiley
That Moog can be seen and heard in Performance and also in the rare movie Umano non Umano.

Those tracks don't feature theremin or moog's, tis just a sine wave oscillator/tone generator.

One like this...
