On the 8 track only Beast of Burden was truly different: it runs longer, and has diefferent vocals on the end. BTMMR sounds has a somewhat rougher mix. On the Made ITS album, all versions are just the standard version.

On the 8-track version, Miss You is also different. Has a longer harmonica break, if my memory serves me correctly.

If I remember correctly that wasn't the case. I bought the 8-track especially for Miss You and BoB, but I did not notice a difference with Miss You. I could be wrong though.

I guess if we can both remember 8-tracks, we both have hazy memories (and in my case many extinguished brain cells).

Does anyone actually have the 8 track ????

It'd be great to transfer it on a CD so we could all have it one day.
Or maybe there's already a bootleg ...

I have it at home, I bought it especially for the different versions. I also remember it was absolutely the best format ever heard in my life, far better than any CD or vynil LP. It sounded so warm, full and fat, absolutely unbelievable. I recorded it onto CDR, and even on the CDR you can hear how good 8-track sounds. The only problem is that the recorded was old and running a bit too slow. I will try to dig the CDR up from somewhere.

Love the artwork on Laid in the Shade? Does anyone know the facts on this - was the final MITS artwork just an airbrush of a bathing suit over this chick? Did the Stones attempt to promote the "naked" version of the pic and were censored?

The version of Miss You is a hybrid between the 12" extended mix and the album track (longer intro, you get the extra verse, longer Woody solo, but you keep Mel Collins' sax unlike the 12") and it comes from the 8-track. Beast of Burden from the 8-track is longer with a few lyrical differences but is inferior to the album track. Before They Make Me Run is from the promo 45 and is a remix with slight lyrical differences and guitar overdubs. It is more polished than the album version but lacks the raw charm of the original. Jagger's falsetto harmonies are mixed up and used more for a pronounced commercial sound. The quality on Laid in the Shade is very good but the tape hiss has not been minimized. The cover art is not Christian Piper's original portrait of Angie Bowie (the one on Made in the Shade is the original with the tongue as the only modification) but is the work of Porky Productions' resident artist as far as I know.

So then Rocky, if I read you correctly,
the Laid in the Shade trax of these songs
are the 8 track versions?

If so, one down, one to go: Is Finger Print File
still around, and if so what's the url?

Yes Rocky Dijon summed it up correctly.

Before they Make Me Run is the promo mix and is found on the US 7". The other 3 tracks you list are from the 8 track.

Shattered 8 track and 7" promo are also the same version.

Laid In the Shade vol2 is a good CD for rarities but what ever happened to Vol 1...? Porky's put out 3 boots then just disappeared.

Davido, Sucking In The Seventies has the 3.46 version of Shattered.
The US 7" promo has the 2.44 shortened version.

Aha! Thanks Rockman. I'm making
an MP3 extended version of Sucking
In The Seventies, so since space isn't
a problem, I'll add it on too!

Let us know the track listing sounds interesting.

What about the cover are ya gonna use Porky's hot-hot doll from Laid..?

Are you sure about this? I distinctly remember the dissapointment when I finally received the 8-track after long searching (pre-ebay...) that Miss You was hardly different (certainly not longer with an extra verse), BTMMR CERTAINLY is not the 45 version (I remember it sounded somewhat more raw, but that's it). The difference was mainly in BoB: the first 3 minutes are the same as the LP version, but it runs longer with added vocal lines. It certainly isn't inferior to the LP version, as it's almost the same.

Hi Rockman!

I still haven't decided the final lineup for my
MP3 Sucking In The 70's Deluxe.I'm converting all my
Stones, especially the boots, rarities, deletes etc.,
into MP3 back up files I can play on my computer,
discman, DVD player. Also just in case any disc
ever craps out or I somehow loose them. Better safe
than sorry.

As I'm new at ripping MP3 files I started out with
a trail project on the late 70's Stones, ripped
an A to Z file of the various sessions (Paris,
Bahamas), one for the Woodstock Tour Rehearsals,
another for Handsome Girls, Lacerated,
Blind Date, and a few of my
favourite boots collections from that
basic era (Static, Lonely at the Top) in
their entirety despite the overlap, and am
tagging on a Sucking 70's Jukebox Deluxe.
Fills about two discs and running with
Sucking obviously overlapping with some
MT Stones, my next era. I will probably
expand it with a lot more from the early
70's when I tackle that, but for now, without
wanting too much overlap with the other discs
I've already ripped, I've tacked on
these bonus trax, in addition to
the originals, from the
Canadian CD rerelease,
track 1-1001:

01 Shattered
02 Everythings Turning To Gold
03 Hot Stuff
04 Time Waits
05 Fool To Cry
06 Mannish Boy
07 When The Whip
08 Dancer 2
09 Crazy Mama
10 Beat of Burden

Bonus Trax:

11 Miss You (Collectable Version -original EP?)
12 Don't Look Back (Single Version)
13 Drift Away
14 Think I'm Going Mad
15 Harder They Come (Keith Back In USA version -single?)
16 Let It Rock (Leeds Mono)
17 Star @#$%& (GHS)
18 BTMMR (Laid Shade /8 Track)
19 Miss You same
20 Beast of Burden same
21 Shattered same

Any other suggestions...........................?

The Some Girls 8 Track has a different Miss You, longer than the album version (5:43) and shorter than the extended versions (8:45). There's lead guitar in the 8 track that's not in the other two Miss Yous. There's a great copy of the 8 Track Miss You on Some Girls Revisited.Sister Morphine missed the 8 Track version on their Some Girls boot but they did a great job on 11.34 working version of Miss You.

I checked - Miss You on Laid in the Shade is the 8-Track version. The Miss You 8T version on Some Girls Revisited is better sound quality. The Miss You on the new singles box (long) is not the Special Disco Mix released on the 12" vinyl in 1978 - a whole different mix.

Never knew an edit version of Shattered existed. What's cut out? Does anyone have this version on youtube?

It was used on the 8t as well

Miss You was definitely a longer version. It had a longer rap with the "girls will come and go, they're just like street cars" line. I seem to recall more harp also.

8-track FARAWAY EYES has no slide guitar solo.

Can someone tell me where I'm going wrong here; the only Laid in the Shade I can find is this one:

[chocoreve.blogspot.com]

Vol 1 and 2 don't have any of the Some Girls tracks you guys are mentioning above, which sound excellent!

Hi IrelandCalling4,

I believe the link you've provided here shows disks 1 and 2 of Volume 1 only. Volume 2 is an entirely different set (also containing 2 disks) with the Some Girls 8-track tunes in question, if I'm not mistaken.
