what an incredible string of releases this guy had during that decade. basically every album he released during that time is top notch. the 3 james gang albums, barnstorm, smoker you drink player you get, so what, but seriously folks plus some live albums. i think almost every one of those releases is essential to rock fans. even his first post eagles solo THERE GOES THE NEIGHBORHOOD is only a slight drop in quality of what he did during that 10 year span i mentioned

Really dig his James Gang stuff. Really innovative guitar stuff and some great tunes...

It's fantastic to consider how much he accomplished in his short solo life.
Also amazing is what he did in his afterlife with the Eagles.

I like in particular the James Gang albums -- "Rides Again" on 8 track is part of a fond herb enhanced road trip memory (or lack thereof). There are some cool mellow passages along with the harder stuff on the 3 Walsh-accompanied LPs. I actually saw them in '71 but don't remember much about it. Also saw Barnstorm open for Clapton in '74. Interestingly Pete Townshend appeared onstage with EC (with Keith Moon) -- it was a Townshend namecheck of Walsh as a great guitar player that first made me aware of him.

Yeah, I recall Pete being a Joe Walsh a fan. He must have been listening to this 1969 song when he wrote "Pure and Easy."

I think they influenced each other. I hear a lot of the James Gang on Who's Next (especially Song Is Over) but I also hear of lot of Tommy in the music of the James Gang. Supposedly, Pete wrote this one after hanging out at a barbecue in Cleveland with Joe and the boys.

That had the so-called "Bolero" section excised for many years because of legal action from the Ravel estate.

every joe walsh greatest hits album released after 1990 has it on there plus most of the james gang compilations. even RIDES AGAIN has it on the new remaster and makes a point right on a sticker on the case that says has the entire bomber medley

I always did like him. He Added some needed 'muscle' to The Eagles. And, yeah, for a second I thought he was dead too!
