OT : Successful "super groups"
Posted by: rollmops ()

I listened to The Faces "A nod is ..." enjoying the music quite a lot and I realised that the Faces were a kind of super group of their days; 1/2 small faces, 1/2 Jeff Beck group. Sometimes wellknown musicians forming a band together can result in great music. So Keith Richards' theory about band formation, you know the "seeing the cracks in the assemblage of the Led Zep" isn't 100% right. Are there other examples of successful "superbands" and also less successful ones.
Rock and Roll,
Mops

Cream, the original supergroup
Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young
West, Bruce and Laing (sold a few records anyway)
Asia (sold a ton of lousy records)

Led Zeppelin wasn't really a supergroup because Plant and Bonham were nobodies at the time they formed.

Well these "nobodies" were already in a band together called 'Band of Joy', here's Robbie & Bonzo pre-Zep...

Cream, the original supergroup

Now, I like Cream, but have never got the 'super-group' tag they have been labelled with. Clapton was well-known as a result of his stints with the Yardbirds and the Bluesbreakers, but Baker and Bruce were not exactly filling the pages of the teen magazines and the NME. Baker had been with the commercially unsuccessful Blues Incorporated and Bruce was Manfred Man's bassist for 5 minutes.

A super group is a group that contains only band members that were previous well know and had a great history in music.

As for Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young (a super group), they all could write, sing and play their instruments but after all they were 4 solo artist in one band, but I love them.

Cream was a Group that were super but not a Super group.

as a member of The Blues Brothers, he had something to his name that most of the rest of them never had....a number 1 album.
