Stones at the 2012 London Olympic Games a no-go
Posted by: JoT839 ()

The rumor has it that he Stones have turned down the offer of being part of the Opening Ceremony at the 2012 London Olympic Games.

Apparently at the Super Bowl half time show, the Stones (read Mick) wasn't happy not being 100% in control and they are very hesitant of doing similar shows.

This came from sources with the London organizing committee, so who knows. It is cool though that discussions have taken place...

Hmm ! Well if it's true (and it could well be), then it probably does nothing more than add yet more fuel to the fire that is the theory that Sunday 26th August 2007 was well and truly IT in the way of live performances .... ?

Good what ? Good that if this is true, it just adds fuel to the fire theorizing that 26/08/2007 was it, or good that the Stones will not play the 2012 Olympics - or indeed EVER again ? Which ?

The bit about them not playing at the Olympics. Especially if its down to the issue of 'control' over what they do. They make enough compromises as it is and shouldnt have to lower themselves to being the cabaret for a sports event.

They most likely were asked to lip sinc. Rush turned down the Canadian Olympics for that very reason. How fitting for the Stones to end their career full circle, back to television broadcasting and lip sincing!

An Olympic Opening Ceremony does not rock.
Hell, it doesn't roll either.

Good for them not to do it.

If there was an opening ceremony concert, that would be a place for the stones. But the 15 min set at a opening ceremony isn't the right thing for the stones.
Let's leave this part to Elton John.

Could be nice to see the Stones in the Olympic Games but talking about the performance I think you are right.
The true is I want a new Stones tour and a new album. I am not exciting with the OlympĂc Games.

If the Stones are ready for a new tour, please, include Porto Alegre, Brazil. The Beira-Rio Stadium is waiting for the Stones.

They refused to play a specially composed medley entitled:

Can You Hear The Music Before They Make Me Run Around And Around?

The last thing we need is a three song set by the Stones within an idiotic opening ceremony.

They would be like performing monkeys playing for the establishment.

Leave it for McCartney.

Niel Young didn't lip synch at the closing ceremonies.

Well good for you and Neil Young! I am talking about Rush Douche Bag!

If you're wondering why Rush didn't play the Winter Olympics in February, singer/bassist Geddy Lee says they were asked, but didn't want to.

Lee told Philadelphia's 94 WYSP FM specific regulations put forward by the organizers made them say "Thanks, but no thanks."

"Yeah, well, we had an opportunity to pay, but there were all kinds of crazy rules going on about lip-synching and stuff like that," Lee said when asked why Rush weren't part of the entertainment. "That's just not our bag, man."

settle down - he was talking about Niel, not Neil. Niel doesn't even sing, let alone lip-synch.

You know there's nothing wrong with this thread that a good analysis of "American Pie" wouldn't cure.

You know someone has issues when all I said was Niel Young(sp?) didn't lip synch and some guy calls me a douchebag. Almost makes want to go back to work....almost.

my feelings exactly...the SB halftime was a mistake imo and I would be happy to see
The Stones say no mas to that crap, tho'I would love to see Keith throw the javelin.
