R.I.P. Jet, very sad news indeed

Sad news. The Shadows went a little downhill after he and Tony Meehan left, IMO.

A bit of Zeppelin-related trivia: Tony Meehan and Jet Harris's 1963 single, Diamonds, is, according to many sources, the first No.1 single to feature Jimmy Page. Also, a young John Paul Paul Jones - then, John Baldwin - was a member of their backing group for a while.

Very sad to hear this. I love his bass playing on the early songs by the Shadows.

He was an integral part of some wonderful music.

I'm not generally fond of the UK honours system but I'm very glad his contribution was recognised before the end of his life.

Not so OT, he was on the Jan-March 1964 tour that included the Stones

That's right. And of course, Bill mentions in Rolling In With The Stones about how shocked he was that Jet wasn't plugged in on stage and someone - probably John Paul Jones, actually - played his parts behind the curtain.

Sad news. Great musician. I only saw him perform once; at a local working men's club in the 1970s. He was playing with his band the Diamonds, and played a selection of Shadows tunes and his hits with Meehan. Great player and a true gent, as I recall.

Peter
