Bill Wyman Ringwood Charity Gig 1989

Seeing Bill Wyman last week at the Ambassadors, and someone speculating on the Boogie for Stu Southampton gig on another thread, reminded me of this Bill Wyman solo gig I saw in early 1989.

It was for a Kampuchea appeal (I think the BBC kids programme Blue Peter), and in Ringwood (south of England near Sotuhampton) because Bill had a friend there from the early 60s who asked him to do it.

Just a small town sports centre: no real security; every standing on the wooden floor; Bill standing by the side of the stage beforehand - but nobody approached....

They played Shake Your Hips and Rock Me Baby amongst other songs. Andy Fairweather Low, Terry Taylor and Labi Siffre were amongst those on stage.

Anyone else make that gig? anyone know of a recording?

The GR was there. He even got me a signed poster. Didnt the late Caron Keating have something to do with it too?

There is a recording of it somewhere.

You could pass Bill stuff when he sat on the side of the stage to get signed.

Andy Wilkinson recorded the show and there were audio tapes and video sold a few weeks after the show.

Off to The Brook in a few hours.
