OT: The official IORR football thread
Posted by: Silver Dagger ()
Date: October 26, 2010 17:02

Seeing as there is so little Stones news at the moment and a lot of us really love our football how about a general thread where we can share our thoughts on the great game? Champions League, Europa Cup, transfer news - even sightings of Rolling Stones at matches.

Anyway, there's sad news today as the symbol of the last World Cup - Paul the Octopus, has died.

I'm sure he still enjoys a kick about with his kids despite being about 65. The last football related news about Rod that I can remember is him watering his famous pitch at his Epping home in 2006 during a severe summer drought when there was a hose pipe ban.

Fast celebrity, dope, booze, too much sushis...and one girl at each arm, when you're an octopus it's a real dilemma in bed.
The success killed Paul. Or maybe he committed suicide after watching the rank of Liverpool in Premier League.

Last week Gareth Bales' value soared to about £20 million. You score a hat-trick against one of the meanest defences in the world - Inter Milan - let alone Champions League title holders and at their place too. Man, that's something else.

By the way, can we get some predictions for Champions League this season. I think it may be Real's year. Man Utd are wobbly, Arsenal will get to the semis perhaps as will Chelsea. Bayern not strong this season and Barca, well, they're contenders too.

I would imagine if ya' asked the average person on the street what are the first three things that come to mind..when ya' think about England.

These would probably be them..

1- The Royal Family

2- English Football

3- The Rolling Stones

Successor to Paul the Octopus is French

»Updated Oct 27, 2010 2:12 PM ET
OBERHAUSEN, Germany (AP)
The successor to the World-Cup predicting Paul the Octopus is French.

Seal Life aquarium spokeswoman Tanja Munzig says the new octopus, also to be called Paul, was born near the southern French city of Montpellier. He will be presented to the public next week.

The English-born Paul died of natural causes in his tank Tuesday at the aquarium in Oberhausen, Germany. He gained fame by predicting all seven of Germany's World Cup wins and Spain's victory over the Netherlands in the final.

Paul made his predictions by opening the lid of one of two clear plastic boxes, each containing a mussel and bearing a team flag.

RIP Paul The Octopus.

Apparently he was asked to predict that Liverpool were going to win the Premiership this season, and he died laughing..

Yeah - it's a travesty, a real injustice. How they can allow such a goal beats me.

Simple. The ref or linesman didnt flag or give a free kick. Gomes threw the ball forward, the ref waved play on. Nani thought, 'hang on, i'll just pop that ball into the net'

Genius

Two teams i @#$%& hate but hilarious to hear Harry the Nodding Hoss complain like a woman after the match (and ever since)

Re: OT: The official IORR football thread - Torres moving?

Unbelievable news that Torres is about to sign for Chelsea in a deal worth at least £50 million English pounds. They arew also about to sign Benfica Luiz for £30 million. And Liverpool are hoping to pay an even more unbelievable £35m for Newcastle striker Andy Carroll who's had one good season in the Premiership. Football has gone mad today.

Latest news is that Torres is taking a medical test at Chelsea with the deal about to be announced.

And Athletico Madrid have reportedly turned down £38million from Spurs for Sergi 'Kun' Aguerro. He's apparently signed a new contract with Athletico. Any other big transfer news in Europe??

At Liverpool, Torres could have become a God, a living legend and icon, loved and defended by the club, the fans, the city and the people. At Chelsea he will be forgotten, just like Andrey Schevschenko. There will always come a new star to Chelski, bought by russian oil money. A club without the same passion and history as LFC. Of all clubs he could have moved to, he chosed the worst. I still can't understand why he left LFC for Chelsea. He will regret it one day, that's for sure. Also, why did he not leave in the summer after the world cup when Liverpool FC was in a much worse state than today? Now, there is a new manager, King Kenny, and the new owners have removed the club's debt and showed their great ambition by signing Suarez. Torres' timing surprises me.

As a Liverpool supporter, it makes me sad to see this now:
