Extremely OT: Strange potatoe

As I was peeling potatoes today, I came across a very strangely shaped one.



Needless to say that this one escaped from the knife.

The brilliant Dan Quayle once spelled the word potato the same way as you did: 'potatoe', while 'correcting' a school boy. The boy was right of course. I think we shouldn't judge a genius by his spelling.

I saw many times on the French TV some broadcasts concerning the "spelling bee"
I thought Mr Quayle made a mistake by " blue penciling " /correcting what he thought that was a mispelling mistake " potatoe" instead of "potato"

the spelling differences between American and British English :

color/colour
neighbor/neighbour
tire/tyre grinning smiley
But if I am not mistaken ,the correct spelling is one potato 2 potatoes, one tomato three tomatoes .....
