Photo question

My all-time favorite RS photo, and let's be real- thats goin some, is the one of Mick and Keith singin into the recording studio mic (Nelcotte?), booze bottles in hand, on the inside jacket of the EOMS album. I don't think it's a Dominique Tarle photo.

I think that pic kinda says it all.

Does anyone know who took this and if it's available as a print from anywhere?

I apologize, I don't know how to post photo on here. I know (hope!) one of you, more tech savy than myself, will post it.

Thanks in advance.

the Exile cover photos were taken by Robert Frank -
the one you're talking about was taken at Sunset Studios in LA in early 1972
you can probably buy a print of it somewhere ...

If it was in Sunset Studios it was probably taken by Jim Marshall, but it could be another photographer.

>> Anyone know if this is available or who took it? <<

that's the photo i was talking about when i responded to your question above.

Jim Marshall took some totally splendid photos of the Stones at Sunset Studios, but not the Exile cover shots.
the Exile cover photos were taken by Robert Frank (unless of course the credits have gotten it all wrong for 38+ years
which isn't impossible, but is there a reason to question them in this case?)

I only asked because there was not yet (as of your original posting) a posting of the photo I've spoken of and immediately after your posting was a photo that wasn't the one I spoke of. Also this wasn't a "Cover photo" per se, it was on the inside sleeve.

I'm not doubting you if you say you know this to be correct. I appreciate your info.

All credits go to the photographer & original scanner/uploader. I'm just passing along what I found.

Man, what a disappointment that it wasn't taken at Nellcote - there goes all the mystique... cool smiley

Jim Marshall indeed. Robert Frank more or less quit photo in 1958...

I don't know if Robert Frank just RE-PHOTOGRAPHED someone else's shot (that is very possible)...

But it is worth noting this photo is in his Exile 8mm reel, along with AN ALTERNATE SHOT, which may suggest that Robert Frank may have taken the shot:

thanks schillid. since (as noted above) that's also what the credits on the cover have said for 38 years,
i'm inclined to believe it

A lot of Exile photos were taken from film footage shot by Frank in LA.

Does anyone have a link to the film footage this image was taken from?

This was released as part of a compilation of Frank's film works ("Volume 3" )
On the DVD, it was all jumbled together... I slowed it down & attempted to put it in a sensible sequence:

Isn't Frank credited just for the cover art?

i don't think there's a separate credit for "inside sleeve photos" - the term "cover photography" seems to cover it.
note that there is a separate credit for the postcard photos (which are by Norman Seeff)
