Gimme Shelter:
"Gimmie Shelter is a classic (example of a song where the music and words came together). That, I just slapped down on a cassette while waiting for Mick to finish Performance." -- Keith
Angie:
"The basic melody and the title were mine." -- Keith
"I had the whole chord sequence down maybe a year ago with just the title Angie. It could have been Randy or Mangy or anything, you know, but Mick just picked up on the title and wrote a song around it." -- Keith
"That was one of Keith's songs (laughs). I just filled in the gaps." -- Mick
Beast of Burden:
"This was another one where Mick just filled in the verses. With the Stones, you take along a song, play it and see if there are any takers. Sometimes they ignore it, sometimes they grab it and record it. " -- Keith
"How it works on a tune like Beast of Burden is Keith would set up a chord sequence and maybe one or two lines, and then you've got to extemporize on that, and come up with these melody lines and lyrics. " -- Mick
Let it Loose:
"(Who's that woman on your arm/All dressed up to do you harm?) I think Keith wrote that, actually. That's a very weird, difficult song. I had a whole other set of lyrics to it, but they got lost by the wayside. I don't think that song has any semblance of meaning. It's one of those rambling songs. I didn't really understand what it was about, after the event." -- Mick
