Thanks for posting. While I have heard it before, and have it on a cd somewhere around it, I had never saw the video. Very nice audience shot. Always wished the album version would have been mixed more in this way.

Guitars sound great, but Mick looks a little silly behind that keyboard...

I'm one of the few here that likes this tune....

71Tele....I seem to remember Mick at the keyboard for Memory Motel on the
Voodoo tour....(Madison, WI). A highlight. Couldn't find other examples of MJ on keyboard on YouTube.
FOund a '98 Memory Motel but Chuck was handling the keyboard part.

IORR............but I like it!

This is on FOUR FLICKS I think:

This may be the earliest song he played on keyboards in concert (chime in if you know an earlier example):

And not *in concert* but still, Mick on keyboards:

Edited to change "not live" to "not *in concert*" because it does appear Mick is playing and singing live in that FAE video.

I think you are right about Mick and Memory Motel...This is an example to me of a mediocre song being performed well, as opposed to a great song being performed poorly, which is far more common.

I wonder what compels them to perform a song only once live.

Are they not able to ascertain how a tune will work live until they do it in front of an audience?

I don't know the answer but keep in mind that this particular MSG run had two other "only once live" moments: "Lowdown" and "How Can I Stop".

I've always loved this song, and its a big reason the Bridges to Babylon is one my fave Stones studio albums from the past 20 years. Great version, thanks, for posting!

Interesting!

Were these done "three in a row?"

No and not in the same show. They also debuted "Already Over Me" but they went on to do that again in Hawaii at least (so I guess they thought it was either performed better or more well-received?).

One of the bonuses in ... FOUR FLICKS I think shows Chuck, Bernard & Lisa rehearsing "How Can I Stop" when Keith walks in and seems to give a thumbs up. I guess Chuck was hoping Keith would be inspired to try it again in concert but it's not yet happened.

That came out a lot more bluesier than I ever imagined.

Drags along though.

It's ok. I like the guitars. Mick does look a bit foolish on this son gbehind the keyboards. Sounds better on other songs. Wouldn't break my heart if it wasn't done again. I can think of about 20-30 other songs I'd like to her attempted at least once.

"It's just some friends of mine and they're busting down the door"

VERY cool for many reasons....mainly because I had never seen the video of this. Always had the audio...very nice to see it.

Wow....they'd NEVER play a song like that today. VERY risky then to even play it...but that's when they all had balls to play something new and outside the box. Listen to Keith...damn....playing all over that song and on the SLIDE no less. Volume all the way up.

An okay song that maybe sounds a little more cohesive on record than on stage but they get a big hand from me just for playing it.

Blown away when I saw it - that they actually gave it a try. Still love it. Always loved the album track.

Dual slide guitars live? What's not to love!

Thank you Keesie, where ever you are, for putting this on youtube.

And of course, thank you Rolling Stones for playing this song for us to enjoy!

Back in 1998 they tried out new stuff, this is not bad but simply unrehearsed, but it is worth a listen.

I think this particular MSG show was unique in the sense that it featured a few one-off's from the Bridges To Babtlon album: Might As Well Get Juiced of course, but also Lowdown and How Can I Stop.

I've always thought one problem with this song is the way the lyric sounds ... "Might As Well Get Jewwwwwwwwwwwwwsed" is a bit offensive.

And even if you hear it as "Juiced", the word "Juiced" is an uncommon and rather corny term for getting drunk. It carries none of the menace and sense of foreboding that this song is trying to convey (and DOES convey in other ways). The word doesn't even connote getting DANGEROUSLY drunk, just drunk. So it misses the mark.

Since the whole song is built around this one word, these are not trivial considerations. IMO.

I reckon so yes. Maybe it sounded good in rehearsals, but I think it was clearly way under par for the Stones. The thing that makes that tune on the album version is the great bass guitar part. Admittedly this is just an audience recording but still - virtually no sign of the bass at all - and the guitar parts sound way too loose.
