Is it true that Johnny Cash was asked to play at the R&R Circus but he had to play somewhere else that day. Can anyone confirm this?

Funny you should ask about this because yesterday I just happened to be browsing through the 1976 book The Rolling Stones An Illustrated Record by Roy Carr and on page 54 it states that the originally planned line up for the RnR Circus was "...Traffic, Johnny Cash, Dr. John, the Isley Brothers, Jethro Tull, and Taj Mahal."
The odd thing about that story is that they had Jethro Tull in the line-up, when I thought they were added as a last-minute replacement for Led Zeppelin.
