Brian Jones helping at Crich in the early 60's

Here is an e-mail I received some days ago :

Hello Annie-Laure

You emailed the Tramway Museum at Crich last year regarding the
newspaper item concerning Brian Jones helping at Crich in the early
1960s.

My colleague Roger Benton replied to you, I believe, but I thought
you might like some more information.

I'm the Photographic Officer at the Museum and I sent out the
original item to the newspapers, to mark last year's 40th anniversary
of Brian's death. I also have a background in filmmaking (nothing
particularly exciting!) and am putting together material for a
possible documentary relating to this intriguing pre-Rolling Stones
period.

The newspaper material was based on the obituary to Brian written by
his friend John Appleby and a few letters and papers of John's which
we have in the Archives at Crich. John himself died in June 1978 at
the early age of 48. He wrote very well and self-published a number
of books on trams, but his most interesting book in relation to the
Brian Jones connection was '38 Priory Street and all that jazz',
which tells the story of the 1950s/early 1960s music scene in the
town of Cheltenham (Near Bristol) where both John and Brian lived. 38
Priory Street was a house in the town where a jazz club and coffee
bar met in the basement. You maybe know most of this already from the
extensive internet sources.

I'm attaching a copy of John Appleby's August 1960 picture of Brian
working hard (perhaps!) at Crich - this picture accompanied the
obituary - and also a picture I took today looking in the same
direction. I've marked an 'x' to show the approximate spot where
Brian was standing. Much has changed over the years. Let's hope that
if Brian was still alive he would have happily remembered his
contribution to the Museum.

I hope you find this information interesting. I'll send you more as
my project progresses if that's ok with you.

Please feel free to email me.

Best wishes,

Chris Gent

Mr. Gent wrote me last year that he wanted to propose installing a plaque that would honor brian's contribution at Crich.

Did he mention this to you, Sway?

...Looks interesting but I, and with me a couple of others I guess, need some background here...
First of all: what (exactly) is 'Crich'? What link is there between Brian & that museum? And last but not least: what's he doing there early '60s, looking like someone that's part of a 'chain gang'!?...
The quoted correspondance seems hardly conclusive on this (or maybe it's still to early call for me, this morning. winking smiley )
Thanx!

Mr. Gent was going to submit a proposal to the museum's directors for erecting a commemorative plaque in honor of Brian Jones.

I'd like to know if that is going to happen.
