OT: your top artists you've never seen live but still want to
Date: March 27, 2010 02:22

the title explains it all. what musicians have you never seen live but still want to. lets make this apply to only musicians that still tour on a regular basis so don't mention anyone who is dead or bands that have broken up.

my top 10:
1 prince
2 bruce springsteen
3 crosby, stills and nash
4 peter gabriel
5 guns n roses
6 u2
7 fleetwood mac/lindsey buckingham
8 jeff beck
9 ac/dc
10 tom petty or eric clapton

i would mention van halen but i saw them in 1998 with cherone on vocals and i've seen DLR solo. i would however like to see van halen with one of the 2 main vocalists but since i techinically have seen VH i didn't mention them

That's a good list you got there and I've been lucky enough to see 5 out of the 10 but I think your post would be more accurate using 'classic artists' rather than top. Without meaning to sound ageist, ain't no one under 45 on that list. (and I'm 46). That being the case;Rock n Roll is dead.

Top acts in the world today are Muse and Joe Bonamassa (imo). That'll change in a few years however.

It's hard to answer this. After 35 years of going to concerts, I figure if there's someone I haven't seen, it's because I don't WANT to see them. Someone like Peter Frampton, for example. I sorta like him. I kinda wouldn't mind seeing him. But whenever he comes to town, which he does every summer, I never get tickets. I just figure that if I really WANTED to see him, I would have seen him by now. It's a bit of a catch 22.

A Great List! Seen all except Peter Gabriel. Not too many I haven't seen, but If I'd have to pick one that still could be a possibility, it would be if Mark agreed to tour with Don & Mel (GFR)

I was fortunate to work at an arena for 6 years where I was able to see a lot of acts I "kinda liked" but probably would not have paid for...the list...

Tom Petty
U2
AC/DC
Prince (would not have thought of that on my own, but he would be cool)
Moody Blues
Yes

Wish I could add someone interesting but nothing comes to mind...I got to see REM, Graham Parker, Warren Zevon...

Oh, they are kind of dead...The Cars.

i think people are confussed. when i said "top artists" it didn't mean popular or successful. it just mean the bands you want to see the most

Of all the bands I have never seen, the one I like the most is Steely Dan. But, again, I've had many, many chances to see them. I guess if I really WANTED to see them, I would have.

Arcade Fire
Neil Young
CSN
The Allman Brothers Band
The Black Crowes
Wilco
The Who
David Bowie
Joni Mitchell

But I would trade all of these for a couple of Springsteen and The E street band shows.I got to see them once and nothing compares to them.

I still hope to see Springsteen, U2, Fleetwood Mac, JONI MITCHELL ( although I don't think she'll ever tour again), Jeff Beck, and CS&N, with Young.
TATTERS, I saw Steely Dan 4 years ago and although they were musically very good, they were a bit BORING. No stage presence to speak of.
Prince was OK, not as great as I expected, on the other hand, Paul McCartney was even more fabulous than I ever dreamed he'd be!
The WHO, with Keith Moon were exceptional!! Amazing really. The Moody Blues are in a class by themselves. I deeply regret never seeing the Beatles and Led Zeppelin!! BooHoo!

That's what I've heard, that they're awkward and uncomfortable on stage. Odd, because their music makes them sound like they'd be the epitome of cool. There was a period of almost 20 years (1974-93) when they didn't tour at all, and while I definitely would have tried to see them if they had toured behind Aja at their 1977 peak, I kind of LIKED the idea of Steely Dan being purely a studio band. By the time they returned to live performance,I just wasn't that interested in seeing them anymore. After decades of hearing THAT VOICE, so personal, so intimate, in my car, or in my headphones, the idea of SEEING it, coming out of an actual person, let alone a person as peculiar looking as Donald, would have been very difficult for me to grasp, and might even have ruined the music for me.

Really? You want to see five guys who sound great but just stand there like Bill Wyman? You might as well just stay home and put on a record then.

what? you're there to watch five guys hamming it up? fine. i'm there for good live music. i'm mostly a jazz fan - you don't see these jazz cats hamming it up on stage and it ain't nothing like listening to it at home.

The Stones, yeah haven't seen them yet. Couldn't go to ABB on my own (I was 12), and my parents can't travel the length of themselves.

I don't think Hendrix is applicable, why did I have to be born in 1992?! angry smiley
