Can anyone tell which version the intro of Duke EllingtonĀ“s
1981/1982 version is? Where can THAT recording be found?

it's on several ellington releases - i'm a huge ellington fan and i have it on the 3cd bluebird release, The Blanton-Webster Band, covering his recordings from 1940-42...this is the original version the Stones used....

ellington's gift for jazz composition was amazing...he had very few peers, really - the only one who really even tried to compose at his level was mingus....

Take The "A" Train (06-30-52)

Hats off to Duke and of course the great Johnny Hodges. Love his 1970 album New Orleans Suite.

that is true..two genius musicians, love that Money Jungle album. Ellington's small groups are a real pleasure. but so are the big bands! and the spin off groups, like Johnny Hodges' bands..

love it all.
