Do or did your kids like The Rolling Stones

If ya answer this, you know you're getting old.

My sons, ages 19 & 15, both like the Stones. I took them to see the band on the Licks tour. They loved it! However, their tastes are a little different from mine.

My oldest likes modern stuff - it's pretty awful, IMHO - Yellowcard, Death Cab For Cutie, etc.

My youngest, however, has much better taste. He is a guitar player (damn good, too.). He loves Led Zep, Hendrix, Beatles, Rush(WTF?), but mainly Zep. Likes Incubus too.

I've exposed them to a steady diet of Stones - maybe that's why they've looked elsewhere, but I wouldn't want 'em to be exactly like me anyway.

After the parents....the kids !grinning smiley

I was waiting for it .

My daughter is 10 years old and I can say that "yes ,she likes the Stones " .

She knows and recognizes a lot of their songs .She insists I will bring her to a next Stones show.
She jumps and dances whenever I put on a Stones CD or vinyl .
She tries to sing the lyrics even if she only knows a few English words.
She wants to wear the same Stones tee-shirts as me .

What else ?
OK ,she much more on Miley Cyrus and Grégoire ....(smile )

I am a Frenchie ,as Mick affectionately called them in the Old Grey Whistle Test in 1977 .

when my daughter was 4 years, she was fascinated by Mick and the way he moves during Under my thumb in the movie LSTNT.... she watched it again and again....and she said things like 'look look daddy, look at his big mouth and he moves like a girl..'

We just had a girl who started work with us. Just turned 19. When I showed her where the tea making facilities were on her first day. She said who's is the cool Stones mug? Which then led to a long conversation as to why Keith is cool. Then th pics frm the 72 tour came up. 1st comment was Keith is cool.

It was September 1998 when I watched the Bremen broadcast ( couple of days after the show took place )
when my son then aged almost 9 years just was around at the
beginning with Keith moving onto the stage with his leopard coat and sunglasses...

He really was very impressed.....what lead to the sad fact that nowadays he´s listening
to some boring hiphop.
Nevertheless he showed recently some interest in watching Gimme Shelter, sooner or later....

My daughter meanwhile almost 23 knows some basic facts about them, that´s it for her.

But hey,the little grandkid....maybe there´s another chance........smiling bouncing smiley

I took my 5 year old daughter (now almost 10) to see the Stones in Miami,
but my wife almost killed me cause people starting smoking weed very
close to us. My daughter got the munchies, she ate 2 big hot dogs and
pretzels. She remembers the hot dogs more than the concert...but she
really enjoyed Get off of my cloud in the center stage. That's her
favorite song from the Stones now.

I put ear plugs on her for the whole concert...doctors advice.

Man, I'd love that - getting to see some of Europe and meeting you (and some other IORR folks)! May have to sell my firstborn to afford ticket/airfare!

Yes, I'm pleased to say they both do. I think they recognize most of the songs.
Brought them to shows at Licks and Bigger Bang tours, 2003 and 2007.
Now they're dying for the (hopefully) upcoming tour some year...

Great stories posted here. My son and daughter are major Stones fans, they have been to many shows, know most all of the lyrics, not just the warhorses. At the MGM, my daughter was waiting and waiting for JJF, but she drank a bit much, and when they finally started it.......well.....it wasn't pretty.

Here´s my review:

Well, I hate seated shows to be honest and I withstood
to buy tickets to what was maybe the last German show.

But two weeks ago the situation changed as some cheap
seats at the side of the stage appeared and I had the idea
to take my 7-year-old son to the show – “pass it on”!
So a dream came true, 8 years after he experienced his
first show in Köln 1999 – in mummy´s womb.

If my father would have taken me to a Stones show when I was 7 –
it would have been a 1976 show – but he didn´t.

The show did not seem to sell well, they were giving away
tickets in silly radiospots and even worse internet competitions.
Of course I took the chance and … won 5 other tickets. So my
wife and 4 of our friends were there for free (everyone really
liked the show, btw). The woman at the counter said that 1000
winners won the competition, so they gave away 5000 tickets.
But to be honest: I rather have those giveaway-fans than empty
seats. The reason for all that mess is commonly known.
But the stadium was finally packed! Great to see!

This can´t be a fair review from a fanatic (as it usually is) because
my son was with me and I was mostly focused on him: earplugs,
eat, drink, toilet – what a father has to do.And I must say that I didn´t
mind the setlist and the warhorses etc. as I usually do when I´m there with
my other fanatics. This time it was just me and my son. After the
opening act I taught him the first “golden” J rule of Stones shows:
“Let´s go peein´ before the Stones are on! NEVER go peeing when
the show is on!” “OK; Dad!”

And really, he enjoyed the 2 hour set (what is v e r y long for a child).
He moved, looked at the people, clapped his hands occasionally, asked
“When do they play GetNo?”, waved at Mick when he was coming to
our side etc. He was following the whole show. I was very happy to see
that!

Some remarks about the show itself. Mick IS the master, the crowd was
in a very good mood and he pushed it the whole show. They could have
played anything but chose the safe way (as too often). Highlights were
the intro and SMU (the people at the side saw the band coming
downstairs behind the stage and started yelling), Ruby Tuesday, Love
Is Strong (with a fantastic harp by Mick and great intro by Keith) – but
Midnight Rambler was once again worth the ticket price. I get shivers
while typing this! This song is definitely co-written by Satan. The atmosphere
in the whole stadium changes the second Keith starts playing the intro blues
licks and Mick joins with the harp. That´s the moment when I want to have
the microphone and tell the whole stadium: “Listen good, folks, THIS is
what the Rolling Stones are about!” Riffs, harmonica, call-and-response,
changing tempo and mood and…. Simply fantastic! The crowd went nuts,
even all the contest winners who maybe thought first “What is that song?”

JJF was a killer! Keith hammered the riffs as it should be, distorted
and loud.

SOUND: wasn´t good all the time at the side of the stage. A bit muddy at
times and too “high”. Charlie´s snare as always was not different from
the toms.

A great show for me and my son.

My 15 year old daughter would admit in private to liking some Stones tunes maybe but would be loathed to admit it in front of her friends....

The stones are looked at as a very old band now, I can't imagine they excite many teenagers now..... and to be honest why should they? There's plenty of great music around.

At 30, I qualify as the kid, since my mother likes the Rolling Stones. She's had the 1st album and No 2 when they came out in the 60s and her vinyl of Exile On Main St. sounds brilliant.

I entered by ways of curiosity and listening to "Wandering Spirit" in a shop. When "Out Of Focus" came on, I knew this disc was going to be a winner, which it is.

My 13-yr-old daughter likes a few of the songs. That is fine with me. A few is better than none, especially considering the sorry state of the modern music industry.

I started my son off with Johnny Thunders, the New York Dolls, then Iggy, and now he is hearing a lot of the new Ya-Ya's remaster. Funny, he heard DEVO's Satisfaction before the Stones's version!

My oldest son, who is now 23, loves the Stones. Has since he was little. His favorite band is Pink Floyd, but the Stones are right up there. He asked me to burn the early stuff to send him while he was in Iraq. Was tired of what he had access to.

The middle one is 19 and thinks Charlie is God. He's heavily into Miles Davis. He listens to the Stones for the rhythms.

The youngest is 15 and will admit to me he likes the Stones, but like albett's daughter, he won't admit to it in front of his friends.

My 3yr old son ( I named him Keith by the way!) certainly has an interest in them, he walks around the house humming the riff to Satisfaction. He asks me to point out Mick, Keith ,Charlie,Bill Ron,and Mick T whenever we watch any dvds. The ol lady dont mind - as I told her he cant go wrong with the stones- THE best music by THE greatest RnR band !! Fantastic.

My youngest (five year old) boy likes their Satanic Majesties Request, and especially Sing This All Together See What Happens. If i am playing with him he always asks me to put on "the train music" (as he calls it).

Early in my son's educational career, the teacher asked Ethan's class for names, other than their own, that they liked. My son raised his hand and said, "Lucifer!" I don't need to tell where he got that name from. I also don't need to write about the strange looks the teacher gave me from that day on. Yes, both our kids love The Stones. And, after looking at that footage from their first American tour, I can see why I fell for them too. Even without sound they were amazing. They always have been, and they always will be.
