Guitar Question from '75
Date: January 31, 2010 20:55

Could this be the guitar used for "Luxury"? I looked at the setlist for that show, and they played it there.

Possibly. But in early shows they are still in the stages of what guitar should be on what song.

I'm pretty sure that Keef plays Luxury in open G with no capo. Keef's Les Paul in the photo above has a capo on the fifth fret. Not clear as to whether it's 5 or six strings. They might be You Gotta Move or YCAGWYW.

Keef tends not to use the same guitar for multiple purposes in the same show. That is, he doesn't use one guitar for open G and standard tuning, or even open G with different capo settings, at different points in the same show.

Baxlap, when I first saw that photo I looked at it fullscreen size; it almost looks like the capo is in 5th fret. I've hardly seen him use that. This is why I thought "Luxury". And then the pic is from Milwaukee.

the Milwaukee 75 photo is by Rick Kohlmeyer - there are other photos of his on the Backstage site where you can see the capo more clearly.
Mathijs has noted that on the 75 tour Keith used that LP Goldtop "on Wild Horses, Happy and YCAGWYW,
and most probably some more songs as well." see this thread here: [www.iorr.org]

it's a bit easier to count the frets in this shot:

- Milwaukee june 8th 1975, by Rick Kohlmeyer

the set list at Milwaukee, courtesy of the good Nico Zentgraf:
Honky Tonk Women/All Down the Line/If You Can't Rock Me-Get Off of My Cloud/
Star Star/Gimme Shelter/Ain't Too Proud to Beg/You Gotta Move/
You Can't Always Get What You Want/Sure the One You Need/
Tumbling Dice/Luxury/Band introductions/Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo/Angie/
Wild Horses/That's Life/Outa Space/Midnight Rambler/Brown Sugar/
Rip This Joint/Street Fighting Man/Jumping Jack Flash

just for comparison, this looks like Wild Horses from the same show:

Great pics!

The one from '72 looks a little odd; I thought it was '75 at first. Keith's Les Paul looks like it's been stripped off its finish (kind of like Mick Ronson's LP).

you can read a bit about that one in that same thread i linked to earlier: [www.iorr.org]

Well..then it does look like it could well be "Luxury". It is capoed in 5th fret. The "Wild Horses" picture has no capo at all.
On the other hand - What does lean towards YCAGWYW is the top of Ron's guitar; that Zemaitis that he played on YCAGWYW.

isn't "Luxury" played without any capo?
