Not a one-hit wonder by any means. He placed 12 singles in the Billboard Hot 100; the first, in 1957; the last, in 1976. "Big Bad John" was a #1 hit in 1961. "P.T. 109" reached #8 in 1962. He also appeared in the James Bond film Diamonds Are Forever, playing a Howard Hughes-type character named Willard Whyte. And you really ought to try some of his premium pure pork country sausage.
