What is that awful high note squealing going on?

Is Mick singing? What is he doing?

Markdog, I very much enjoyed this clip. Thanks for posting. It is a version I've never heard/ seen before.

I saw them during this 1975 tour. That Gimme Shelter version remains pretty bad compared to the 1973 version. And Mick's voice is in shouting mode as it often was during the tour. Still, The Stones are the Stones - Love 'em.

The July 13 version is just simply fantastic.

not crazy about the 75 version, imo the weakest live GS of all tours, but the tour itself was fantastic with a great setlist

it's a Japanese-themed outfit, to go with the lotus-shaped stage and his Kabuki-style moves.

But how the brutish singing was supposed to fit the concept, I'm not sure.

the 75-76 tours are the worse in the stones careers. ronnie sounds like he's trying to adjust his style of playing to fit the stones. keith seems to be lost between a mixture of heroin addiction and adjusting from the loss of mick taylor to ronnie's style. and billy preston's influence seems too overpowering. those tours seem like a fault line between two great eras in the stones touring career

.......I love every bit of their 75/76 act.

i dont exactly hate those tours , they have plenty of great performances but feel that in general the way i posted earlier. but the stones at their worst are much better than most bands

Ì love the 75 tour -it was their sleaziest, sexiest and rawest tour ever. Great setlist, Charlie was at his best ever, fantastic guitar sound. I just love the slow pace of all songs, the extra percussion, and great versions of GS, ADTL, Fingerprint File, MR. I enjoy these shows better than most '70 and '71 shows, and even to most '73 shows.

Never liked the 76 tour so much, too clean, setlist was not near as good as '75.

Imo the 1st part of the tour (till the NY shows) was ROCKING.

After that, they either got too self-confident ("hey despite the absence of MT we're still a great live band") or bored but the rest of the tour was disappointing with a handful of exciting shows (last Chicago) or exciting performances within boring shows (for ex. SFTD from July 9)
.

Do you really think the 7/9 and 7/13 shows are boring? These shows are just about as good as a Stones show can get!

Honestly I think they have a "rollercoaster" quality : flat at times then exciting then flat again. Otoh if you listen to the Baton Rouge gigs it's mind-blowing renditions one after another... (just my opinion of course).

Another example : the (longer aud) tape of the Buffalo show never fails to move me. From July 9 ADTL is quite exciting but 5 minutes later the renditions of SFucker & GS bore me... Rollercoaster effect...

The band was excellent - It is Jagger that kills it for me. I just don't care for what he was doing in 75/76. But if others like it that is great. Just my least favorite period of live Stones because of Mick.

I saw them in June 1975 in Toronto. Later I heard several boots from the tour. There was much less musical finesse due to MT's absence. But there was a great sense of rebirth too. They seemed to be having a great time on stage.
