I seen my first Stones show at MSG Nov 13, 1981.

I was completely thrown for a loop when Screaming Jay Hawkins opened up...never seen anything like him...

Is it true James Brown was supposed to open up these shows but missed the plane and Screamin' Jay Hawkins was in NYC and agreed to replace James Brown.

When the opening acts had class. When did this disappear? 90?

I saw my first show the night before, but at the age of 14, had no idea who he was. If I recall, he had a snake around his neck at some point during his set.

I've seen Screamin' Jay Hawkins in my Hometown some years ago.He opened for James Brown and to me he stole the show.
Never seen a man like him before, lots of fun during his show with the skull on his piano and a movin'hand>< like the one you could see in some horror movies.

screaming jay was a last minute replacement, but I forget for who. I bought counterfeit tickets outside the show that night and never got in. A big rookie mistake .
Tina Turner opened the week before at the meadowlands ,which were my first two stones shows. I also was a rookie at the second show there when I passed out drunk from sambuca.total amateur I admit

I went to the show on 11/12/81 when Screamin' Jay Hawkins also opened. My understanding is that he was a last minute replacement for James Brown, who cancelled when the Stones balked at paying for the 20-piece band he wanted to bring along for his sets. The Stones only wanted to pay for a seven-piece band.

what album(s) are those on, please and thank you Rockman honey?
i know nzentgraf says Portrait of a Man, but according to amazon that was a 1972 release.
and Hawkins's 1979 release - [www.amazon.com] - doesn't have those numbers on it, so ... i'm confused!
