I was lucky enough to see the band twice before the plane crash. Many times since. Ronnie was a unique talent with a great stage presence.

The first time I saw them was in Macon with Charlie Daniels and the Atlanta rhythm Section. ARS later wrote a song about this night called "Large Time":

"We played Macon, Georgia with Lynyrd Skynyrd
It was a rock and roll hoe-down
When Van Zant let that Free Bird fly
You know he wasn't fooling around ....."

Second time the show was opened by a YOUNG 38 Special (featuring Donnie Van Zant) and Montrose (with Sammy Hagar). LOUD! Billy Powell was awesome during "Call Me The Breeze". Allen jumping and doing splits during "Free Bird". A Disco Ball during the FB lead!

Also saw the Rossington-Collins Band.

Their last album Street Survivors was fantastic, polished, professional, perfect. If that awful crash had not happened. . .. They might have risen to the top of the Rock and Roll food chain in terms of records sold concert attendance and money.
