OT "hear, hear" or "here, here"

ok, so in my opinion it can only be "hear, hear" but I constantly see native speakers writing it wrong it really bugs me for some reason. yesterday, I even read it in a bestselling book!! with ssssoul, tell me that I'm right and "here, here" is really violence against the language...

(those in doubt could try "hear here" to reasonably good effect, i reckon ...
but it's supposed to be "hear hear" )

I actually looked this up a few weeks ago because I was wondering the same thing myself.

It's hear hear - I think it originated at Parliment or something.

Wasn't looking too good, but I was feeling real well.

I always have great fun with the french who tend to pronounce bitch/beach/pitch/peach the same grinning smiley...
