"FLIGHT 505" - So what is the consensus on this song??

First time I heard it, I couldn't believe it wasn't a hit for the band. But in listening to it several times later, there are some elements that seem to fall short. Mick's voice sounds froggy and Keith seems to be struggling for a feel on the track.

Otherwise, Charlie and Bill are solid and I love Stu's playing on the song.

I think with some refinement, it could have become a better song. In fact the band rehearsed it in 2002 but I don't think I would have liked the Chuckster's playing...

What does everyone else think???

Great tune but it's just sort of a tune they could play any day of the week.

Love this song. Wish they'd haul it out on the next tour.

I love the Satisfaction riff that Stu puts in at the end of the piano intro.

what's not to love? classic early stones rocker that holds up well all these years later to more well-known stones songs out of the berry mold....

A great one. A jet set update of a train song.

Great drums and bass!
That´s about it, though...
The song itself is not very good, the vocals and guitars are substandard for the Stones.
The piano intro is OK, the Satisfaction reference is slightly "funny".
No, one of the weakest tracks on Aftermath!

I'll have to give it another listen. Haven't heard it in quite a while. I do know I like the song. I just never thought it was GREAT.

The Fuzz bass is it's own reference. It is one of the trademark sounds of Aftermath. IMO it is in no way a "Satisfaction" reference.

Super song. Great fun and one of their first road songs...or air in this case. For it's time it's pretty punk. Great Jagger sneering attitude. He doesn't ask the airline girl he tells her to "get me on Flight number 505".

Great Stones stuff ..... Even with those final lyrics ... .....

Well I sat right there in my seat, well, feeling like a king
With the whole world right at my feet, "Of course I'll have a drink"
Well suddenly I saw that we never ever would arrive
He put the plane down in the sea

The end of flight number 505

They put the plane down in the sea
The end of flight number 505

A song about Buddy Holly Airways.

I love the fun piano intro with the Satisfaction riff at the end.

Vocals are gloriously lazy, as are the guitars.

...a classic.

I'm talking about the piano, not the bass. Listen to the piano at the very end of the intro at the end of the barrel roll boogie, Stu does the Satisfaction riff (about 0:19 seconds in) just before the band joins in.

There's actually a pretty good cover of the song including a version of the intro on the 'We Love You' 2003 tribute by Darrell Bath:

I know there's sheet music out there for the song but as a piano player myself, I'd love to be able to play that barrellhouse intro...

Mick is snarky, a bit up, almost arrogant. It lags, which aids the vocals and the drawl. It's not a typical arrangement but more along the lines of a classic arrangement.

Yeah, great tune. The intro is, well hell, it was 1965. Not very inventive.

The end of 505 sounds a lot like the end of Brown Sugar.

Great tune.
Great lazy and loose vocals and guitar.
Great fuzz bass.
Great LP.
Surely a Satisfaction kind of goofily reference.
But maybe not exactly a Pop hit candidate.
But again, "Little Red Rooster" was a no. 01. So.......

You mean the end of Brown Sugar sounds like the end of Flight 505...

The Satisfaction riff right before the vocals
reminds me of John Lennon singing She Loves Yeah, Yeah, Yeah
as All You Need is Love fades out
