How did Peter Tosh ended up recording
under RS Records? Was he the only other
artist to do this? What's the story?

I think Jagger and Richards were in Jamaica for the concert where Tosh and Marley did seperate sets (during an election year where both candidates were there, shortly after Marley was shot), and thought his set was very powerful and ended up working to sign him.

Of course later they found out he was quite crazy which accounts for why he only put out a couple of LP's.

Apparently, the Jim Carrol Band was signed to a three record deal with Rolling Stones Records, but the albums came out on the Atco label...

Jagger and Richards wanted to sign a reggae artist for RS Records. Bill Wyman suggested to sign Eddie Grant, but the Glimmer Twins decided to take Peter Tosh. Bill later commented this decision that his choice would have been a much better deal for the label.

In the long run Tosh was a better choice.
Grant is Beatles while Tosh is the Stones.

I personally believe Tosh's so called friend circles
were more of an obstacle than himself.
Same circles that also came to finish his live in the sad day in 1987.

Saw him in concert in 85'. What a show. He comes out smoking the biggest plif I'd ever seen. Listen to "Legalize It".

RSR head Earl McGrath produced it as Earl McGrath Music CBS. Biob Clearmountain was the engineer. More Stones "connections": Bobby Keys plays on it (I think Keith once live), Annie Leibovitz and Michael Halsband photos
