Forty Licks. Fifty More.

Here's one way it could work out for the fiftieth anniversary tour.
The re-launch of Forty Licks combined with a new 3-CD companion
compilation, entitled Fifty More. If you want to play along at home,
here are the rules:

1) 5 slots are reserved for the new tunes they're working on now.

2) Of the 45 remaining, for contractual reasons, they should be
split approx 50/50 between abkco and non-abkco.

3) Your 45 should constitute a prediction about what Mick and
Keith will choose for the album, not your personal favorites.

4) Keno's list is very helpful: [www.keno.org]

5) Warning: It will likely be sheer torture trying to reduce your list
to only 45 songs. It was for me:

As Tears Go By
Before They Make Me Run
Bitch
Can't You Hear Me Knockin'
Dandelion
Dead Flowers
Dirty Work
Down In The Hole
Factory Girl
Far Away Eyes
Flip The Switch
Good Times, Bad Times
Highwire
Hot Stuff
I'm A King Bee
I'm Free
Little Red Rooster
Live With Me
Luxury
Memory Motel
Midnight Rambler
Moonlight Mile
Neighbors
No Expectations
One Hit (To The Body)
Play With Fire
Rip This Joint
Rock And A Hard Place
Rocks Off
Rough Justice
Salt Of The Earth
Sex Drive
She's So Cold
She Was Hot
Shine A Light
Silver Train
Some Girls
Star Star
Stupid Girl
Time Is On My Side
Time Waits For No One
Too Much Blood
2000 Light Years From Home
Waiting On A Friend
You Got The Silver

Here's an even better way- they use what little dignity they have left and finally pack it in. Another tour that's all about their bottom line at the expense of their legacy and fans is not needed.

And they aren't working on new songs, at least not any worth a damn. Give it up, it's over.

Why alphabetical? Do it era wise.

I've done my own Forty Licks V2 - removed Stealing and Keys and replaced with Heartbreaker and Hang Fire.

Then I did another one of just their catalogue (no ABKCO Records).

Then I did a Fifty Licks of both. Been on the road, a lot of time on my hands.

I just don't see the Stones doing anything like that. Forty Licks was enough. They milked everyone for that. They just have to know better now, that people won't bother since no one is buying the reissues as it is.

reissues are important to keep therecords in the shops, so they don´t have to sell well but this was dicussed on another thread. And to split 45 songs into two equal parts, well, That´s impossible, also for our boys.

I forgot to say that, if they did do something like this, I think they
would ALSO release an entirely new record sometime during the same 50th
anniversary timeframe. So, let's say, 5 new songs on the goodest hits
collection, released at the same time as the tour announcement, late this
year, and then 15 more new ones on the new album, released when the tour
starts mid-2010...

Plus a comprehensive DVD package of their videos in time for Christmas 2010...

Why not?

makes it 22,5 songs per era.... smiling smiley)

skipstone, Stealing My Heart rocks, though lyrics are pretty lame indeed.

Stealing My Heart sounds like a Dogshit leftover, only it's played by the Stones. It just lacks the keyboards and all those silly fruity sounds on that solo record. That's why it sucks. Don't Stop is the only Stones song of the 3 "rockers" and there is no slagging Keith's tune, that would've fit in Bridges easily!

i think a box set would be in order for 50 yrs of music . with unreleased live versions, the release of all the stereo version in abkco's vault, and some new mixes (not dj remix crap) of classic tracks.

There are two mixes that come to mind that are very interesting - the Bob Clearmountain mix of Love Is Strong and the Scott Litt mix of I Go Wild. Both have less editing in terms of what is left out, there's a bit more of Mick's vocals in LIS, IGW is a bit longer with more guitar work in it and LIS has different guitar lines in it, different from the LP version.

Also from what I've understood it's not that they overdubbed the hell out of LIS but rather had several amps going at the same time with different tones, distortion, effects, whatever, and used those - from what I can recall something like 7 actual tracks of electric guitar - bringing different sounding tracks (amps) in and out of the mix - a true production of getting the right/different sounds.

I like those kind of mixes, that implore the actual song, not the fruity dance mixes. Those are just abominations of the music of a rock'n'roll band that is NOTHING about that kind of crap, which has always amazed me that the Stones (Keith) would allow such audio travesties and disasters to occur (Mick). To be hip in the dance places? What's wrong with the songs the way they are? Just play them louder!

The remixes of the 1980s - Undercover, One Hit, Harlem Shuffle, etc...were the original songs as they were just mixed and edited differently, maybe some extra actual instrumentation done as well but none of that fruity disco shit. Most of the 'remixes' of the 1990s had the fruit. Saint Of Me was the only one that was a true remix. That I've heard anyway.
